Chris Hayes: It was never about the policies anyway, it was about who rules. Who has power.

Interesting view on Trumps ability to make compromises on immigration (and probably other policies) while still being supported by his base. I wonder what the Trump supporters here have to say.

LOL, given that Bill Kristol has been paid handsomely BY VERY SRS NETWORK TV PEOPLE to be clownishly wrong at regular intervals, in between which he's just a disingenuous gasbag, how does he figure this?

The distance that these pretenders like to imagine that is between them and Trump is about as long as Trump's list of legislative accomplishments thus far.

First time I've seen this particular interpretation but it rings true to me. It would explain why so many Trump supporters seem to be supporting Trump policies that would clearly hurt them economically, something I have found puzzling.
I doubt if Trump supporters on this board, and elsewhere for the most part, would acknowledge this though.

Yes, I think a lot of Trump base is a cult of personality. In interviews, a lot seem to say they don't necessarily like how Trump goes about doing things, but they like his sensibilities about policy. I think it's pretty much the opposite. They like how he does things, how he is brash and insensitive and unconcerned with the niceties of ethics, and they are willing to be led about what that means policy wise. So, even if they were formerly told to hate DACA, they can quickly rationalize how the new DACA is good if Trump fashioned a deal around it. After all, they've already heard him say all the right things about how Mexico was stealing from us with NAFTA and he was going to make Mexico pay for the wall to keep all the rapists and drug pushers out.
