If you put money on TCU last night, you would have been better off buying ocean front property in Arizona. They were ripe to get exposed at The Rock. If you don't know about The Rock (the toughest place to play for a visitor in C-USA), you should haven't been putting money down on this game anyways. They're an above average team playing a ***** schedule. About time.
The funny thing is the way the national media has been acting like TCU deserves to be in the BCS. They actually thought that TCU could hang with the likes of Ohio State and Texas just because they beat Tulane and UH. What's even more astounding is the way the TCU players actually bought into the hype, thinking that they could compete with the nation's elite. I'm glad the Horned Frogs were put in their place. Now the letters T-C-U will never be mentioned in conjunction with B-C-S.
This was a huge blow for conference USA and all the mid-major schools who are screwed royaly by the BCS and it's monopolistic, exclusionary practices. Hopefully the government will slap the BCS with an anti-trust suit soon. And to the Texas fan who just made some comment about TCU being exposed, I agree. TCU has been overrated all along, they should have lost to UH a few weeks ago.. if not for a horrible call on a fumble that caused a 14 swing (cost UH 7 points, added 7 points to TCU). But as a Texas fan, you'd be wise to stay quiet about programs being exposed.
And yet, half the teams they beat will be mentioned in conjunction with the BCS starting next year, and they won't have to go undefeated to get into a BCS Bowl.
too bad Texas can't hang with the likes of OU Now the letters T-E-X-A-S will never be mentioned in conjuction with N-A-T-I-O-N-A-L-C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N-S We all knew TCU was a fraud..it was only a matter of time before they were exposed.
No, because Cincy, Louisville, South Florida, et al that are jumping to the Big East will have a chance at an automatic bid no matter how low-ranked the conference champ is. This year, Louisville would've had to go undefeated for even a shot at a BCS Bowl. Next year, they could potentially lose three, four games and get into a BCS Bowl. Now that I've thought about it, my biggest problem with the BCS is the automatic bids. The BCS should just take the highest eight teams and put them in the BCS Bowls regardless of conference affiliation. It's ridiculous that a team that the BCS formula ranks higher than another has to settle for a non-BCS Bowl in favor of a lower-ranked conference champion. There shouldn't be any guarantees other than Top Eight gets you a BCS Bowl.
what is the point of having conferences then ? (if we go with your suggestion) i still say winning the conference championship of a BCS-conference is worthy of earning a BCS-bowl bid your question should of been, should the (new)Big East still be a BCS conference?
They will be for two years no matter what. If you're going to keep conference tie-ins, then they're going to eventually have to expand to add more conferences because they're going to lose the anti-trust thing at some point. Most of the time, you'd see your conference champions in anyway because, more often than not, they're going to be in the top eight.
Call this an anti-conspiricy theory: If Southern Miss takes a dive Thursday night, they would have gotten their conference member share of the 13 million dollar payout TCU might have gotten from the BCS. I'm not sure how the money is divided but, winning probably cost them a quarter of a million.
