For those that don't know, DuBois and Washington were leading black voices at the turn of the twentieth century. DuBois, a founder of the NAACP believed blacks should focus mainly on gaining civil rights and Washington believed blacks should focus on economic independence. I personally believe DuBois was correct, its hard to achieve anything without fundamental rights in my opinion. However I do think Washington was about fifty years ahead of his time. I've come to believe that blacks are too focused on what the government can do to improve our situation. Washington was focused on economic independence. While I don't believe blacks should try to separate ourselves, I do believe we aren't focused on the right solutions to our situation. We are too focused on the government fixing our problems and we are at a standstill. Hispanics have passed us in economics, in education, and are in a much better political situation because they are self sufficient. Its a mindset. They don't care about stupid things like Oscar awards. These things don't matter and even more so they are a distraction on what it takes to move forward socially. When I argue on racial topics in these threads my main overall point is we need to take more responsibility in fixing our problems. It doesn't matter how those problems started, they are ours to deal with. That maybe unfair but its just the reality. Broken homes have to be fixed from within. A teacher and school can only do so much. That kid still is under the influence of his family and community.
Yikes! Self Accountability. So very unPC bro. Its always someone elses fault. But I agree. Regulation is not always the complete answer. You can't regulate away bias and bigotry.
The reason I wrote the title like that is because they knew each other and were rivals in philosophy on what blacks should focus on
Who says we're not. SBA loan applications and home ownership don't require a rally, editorial or David Simon screenplay, or for us to even stick together outside of Election Day. Clustered black neighborhoods are in big cities with closer access to and interaction with mass media producers, that's why their narrative has shaped mainstream America's perceptions for the last forty years.
We spend an inordinate amount of time on the bottom 5% of blacks in this country because they advance narratives. It makes senses that Hispanics would have more spending power as they are the largest minority group in the country. Idk if they are more educated.....1st and 2nd generation immigrants are holding it down for blacks (you're welcome lol) Between the two, I'd go with DuBois because of his pan african leanings. But Booker played a key role in the education and recruitment of black officers along with COL Young.
Was booker T the one that carried the boombox? I was a hacksaw jim fan. When he would flip that beautiful american made lumber in the air, oh was is great. And the American flags filled the crowd. those crowds. You don't see those type of crowds at wrestling matches nowadays.
The black population won't grow as fast as the other immigrant minorities. That's a hurdle in economic self sustainability as a block because ethic enclaves have the benefit of new labor or money overseas as a revenue source. Focusing on civil rights is the smart play, though I think fiercely distrusting all forms of establishment culture is a double edged sword. The question is debated to this day and has become a chicken or the egg paradox...has years of predatory and civil practices by financial institutions and the state lead to distrust with integrating and mastering those instruments? Or should they blindly persist beyond their victimized state and sacrifice their generation for a better chance for their kids despite the realization that discrimination is chronic and systemic to this very day? Immigrants have a new slate and a reference of what they're leaving behind. The poorest of the poor can't leave their block, let alone relocate to another city. there is also no new money or energetic people from far off lands. You and yours are on your own.
Still think your account is a hacked account However Booker T was supremely a better philosophy and DuBois was kind of a cooler and apologist for status quo Rocket River
btw, this isn't entirely true. Hispanics have throughout history cared about how they are portrayed in popular media, about few roles, stereotypical portrayals (often portrayed as lazy, criminals, drug runners, illegal aliens, gang members, etc).
