Clippers sign Doug Overton, release Wang Zhizhi

    November 21, 2003

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Doug Overton, who played briefly for the Los Angeles Clippers two years ago, has signed a
    contract with the team.

To make room for him, the Clippers released Wang Zhizhi.

Overton played six games for the New Jersey Nets before being waived Nov. 13. He averaged 2.2 points in 18
games for the Clippers late in the 2001-2002 season.

In NBA seasons, Overton has career averages of 4.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 444 games. He has also played
for Denver, Philadelphia, Orlando, Boston and Charlotte.

Wang, a center, appeared in 43 games in parts of two seasons with the Clippers, averaging 4.3 points. He had four
points in two games this season while playing behind Predrag Drobnjak and rookie Chris Kaman.

Do we really need someone who's been rejected by the clippers? Wang seriously screw himself over by not joining the national team, which contributed to his problems with the mavs, which eventually got him to the clippers and now released by the clippers.

We already have one. Our roster is full, anyways. Have to make some hard decisions when the guys come off of the IR.

I somehow doubt the Rox would sign a guy who is personna non grata with his national team, and national basketball federation.

Uh, FYI, WZZ is a 3-pt sharp shooter, possibly a lot better than Boki. He used to be Yao's idol.

    ;)

Rockets don't really need him, but Im sure he will end up with a team pretty soon. He's a big body with nice shooting skills, but thats about it.

He probably has a chance play in the eartern conference. They lack Center with size and can score.

    Miami, Magic, Toronto, etc.

He should find a good agent and contact those teams immediately.

I think we should get him. He's better than Padgett or Meech.

At least he and Yao can communicate on the floor in Chinese and none of the oponents will know what they are saying

WZZ's plays like a prima dona; by comparison Boki competes like a ferocious beast.

WZZ would be a bad influence on Yao. invariably, they'll reminesce about the good old days in China, where they play "polite" BB. WZZ presence may hinder Yao's growth as a NBA BBers.

Most imporantly, he would not fit into JVG's hard-nosed style of play.

Rox won't acquire Wang even he may be better than Paddget or whoever it is.

Simply it is because Wang has such a bad relationship with Chinese national team, so if Rox sign him, it will hurt the Rox and Yao's business maketing in China.

WZZ would make a great backup center for us, we should try him out since he doesnt cost us much. He's a great 3pt shooter too!!
