perhaps it i the timing I guess my point it . . . he WAS having a good game but still was passing up wide open Js Rocket River
Some of the knee-jerks in here may think Boki sucks, but JVG obviously does not. If you paid any attention, you would see that not only is he getting significant minutes, but he is getting significant minutes in the fourth quarter, when the game is on the line. Sure, he is making some rookie mistakes. But. he is obviously doing enough things well enough for JVG to stick with him. His shooting has been streaky so far. The things I see him doing well are rebounding, energy, passing, DEFENSE and running the floor well. He seems to never have any problem getting the entry pass to Yao. You think Van Gundy thinks that is important? If the Rockets hadn't acquired JJ, whom I really like, Boki would be getting even more minutes. He gets about a block a game, which is very good, considering his minutes. He is also getting a charge call or two a game, which is also significant. Drawing those charges means he is moving his feet and knows the angles to take to beat the defender to the spot and not get called for blocking. He does get beat off the dribble at times, but tell me who doesn't. As for the original question in this thread, anyone who has ever played any basketball at all knows that there are times when you shoot a jumper, but don't feel really "right" about it before you shoot it. Call it confidence in that particular shot or whatever. You very rarely make a shot like that. You shoot the same exact shot at a different time and you feel good about it and you have a much, much better chance of making it. Sometimes it just doesn't feel right. It's the opposite of being "in the zone" where any shot feels right. All that said, my guess is that Boki just didn't have his head right for taking the shot at that time. The question is, do you go ahead and take a shot if you don't really want to, or is it better to pass it? There is no way to come up with any stats or percentages, but I think you are better off passing. Lastly, when Pike and Griffen come back, it probably will cut into Boki's time somewhat, but I believe he will stay in the rotation. He is after all 6"9", rebounds, blocks shots, plays good defense, can get to the basket and has no trouble getting the entry pass to Yao. His only problem right now is his streaky shooting. That is definately something that can be improved.
Rocket River This just only goes to confirm that you are one of the chronic simpletons I often talk about - a shallow idiot to keep it civil. How can you come up with that stupid take after watching the first half? You just couldn't wait until the end of the freaking game? Do you even know what timid means? Did you finish high school? To say that makes you a moron is an understatment. For that reason alone you will remain a fuul in my books since you do not have the common sense to wait 'till all the votes are in' per se (look before you leap next time kiddo). You are a certified mumu. People like you should be restricted to read-only status on this forum
Dude, u must be kidding me ! Every time Boki comes in the game, he is always very productive. He comes in and makes points with the little time he gets, and he puts up good solid numbers. To me he deserves more playing time.
I’ve seen a lot of improvement in Boki’s game since the beginning of the preseason. Seems like he comes into every game and nails the first 3 he shoots. He’s slashing to the basket more, playing aggressive defense (sometimes a little too aggressive), blocking shots, drawing charges, snatching rebounds, making nice passes. The guy is just brings 100% energy when he steps on the floor. He makes the most of the few minutes he gets. He still makes a lot of mistakes, but not nearly as much as he made in the preseason. By the end of the season, if he gets playing time, I think his mistakes will be cut down a lot.
I am going to be driving the boki's bandwagon here. Boki is going to be a star. He is going to be better than kukoc ever was. He will be at least comparable to peja. Maybe even dirk. boki, yao, and cato will be a great frontline.. and jj will be moved to the 2.. and mobley back to the bench, so he can play his style wihtout hurting the team
o.. and boki isn't timid.. he is just doing what's he supposes to do I am sure JVG stresses the extra pass during practice besides, boki is playing less than 20 min a game. the last thing he wants to do is to have his shoot happy teammates think he likes to shoot all the times. I saw him shoot when the shot's there.. and I believe he only passed up shots when he felt his teammates had better shots.
Hahahah! I agree, he needs to SHAVE his head & sport a goatie!! And, I wish he wouldn't pass da rock 2 Mooch too much when he is WIDE open!!!!! I'm tired of yelling @ him on my TV screen ! Overall, I'm happy that he is proving alot of people wrong about him!
RocketRiver: I just find your consistent defenses of Mobley peculiar in light of the criticism of Nachbar. I mean, Nachbar is younger, has more time to improve, has virtually no NBA experience, and is a near-rookie on a team with a lot of people who want the ball. Sure, he doesn't shoot enough. I'll agree. But the tone of your criticism is odd, when it seems that his flaws are more likely to be corrected and less attributable to really worrisome problems like selfishness than the problems of the player you most often defend.
OK. Well I can agree with that take, but I think people need to understand that the guy is playing in real NBA games for the first time this season and he has only played in several of them. Give the guy time. I'd say he's made huge strides from game 1 to game 10 this season all ready. He is a developing player. Allow him some time to develop before making a final judgement.
Worst.. Post.. Ever.. AND, BY THE WAY, it's the 'Boki Pokey', twit. Plus, with MoT coming back, and soon Pike and AG, it's not going to be Boki who loses his minutes, as much as it will be Braggs. Pike will probably be sharing minutes at the 2 with Mobley, and since JJ will likely still get his most minutes at the 3 instead of the 2, JVG will be able to rest him a bit more, since he has been playing a lot, better to keep him fresh for the end of the season.. Which means that AGriff and Boki will still be sharing the backup minutes at the 3.. so even at worst, Boki will still probably average about 12 minutes per game.
I don’t see AGriff getting any of Boki’s minutes. The team is already the best defensive team in the league without him. Boki’s scoring is needed much more than Griffins defense.
It is a lighter criticism than it is coming off as . . . He had the chance to throw down some daggers and passed them to players that did not have open looks the EXTRA pass is to get an open shot. . . when u pass the open shot the defense recovers. . . . . . As for Mobley . .. i defend him because someone has too he is NO WHERE as bad as others would portray him I'm a rocket fan . . .. I like all the rockets [unlike some others] I want them to succeed. I want Boki to succeed . . .in time he will have to get the confidence to take those shots Rocket River
what ever Did you read the 1st post to the end. . or just had your panties in a wad from the jump . . .. . If you had read the 1st post was a QUESTION as much as a statement. . . . . rocket river /ignore fools
I have to give Rocket (Haiku ) River one thing - he does not really let himself get dragged into pissing matches, and I like that. He already explained that it was not meant to be a harsh criticism. I have watched a few Rockets games this season and have to say that I also wished a few times that Boki would be more assertive. It does not mean he sucks, on the contrary, one would like to see him do more! I also like Rocket River's attitude of trying to support ALL Rockets players. GO ROCKETS!!!!!
