I'm for it. And I'm inclined to support such a ticket, even if on the policies I'm closer to Democrats.
I'd be ok with it. The only thing that would give me pause is whether it would split the vote and enable a Trump re-election, assuming he is still around.
Trump has his 30% base. Any moderate independent ticket is likely just going to split Dems and independents between two choices, so unless one bows out, it helps Trump quite a bit. It's the same as when Bloomberg was thinking of running.
By exaggeration, you mean "lie". The democratic party today is far to the right of where it was 20 years ago, or especially 40 or 60 years ago. You are literally just clueless on anything related to politics and/or history (and most other things, really).
I don't doubt that you think that.....but that doesn't make what I said a "lie", it just suggests that you are one of those who is very much out of touch with reality. When you say 20 years ago, you realize the Democratic president fought for welfare reform, hiring more border patrol agents and increasing penalties for illegals, a crime bill that would be absolutely bashed as racist if it was passed today, banning openly homosexual individuals from serving in the military, he was against same sex marriage, he supported deregulation, and balancing the budget.....you say that you haven't moved to the left, but you would absolutely call 1997 Bill Clinton a "right wing hack" if he was in politics today. I understand the reason that your bias blinds you to reality, but it's a bit tiresome.
This has to be about lil Bobby. Lol Anyway, quite true that Demo policies have been dragged to the right by the looney politics increasing within the right. Reagan wouldn't stand a chance in hell in this Republican Party, shockingly enough.
Both a crappy strategy and probably wrong, Kasich is going to join 20 other Republicans in the 2020 primary just to get rid of Trump. The last chance for stuff like this was '98 - '00 when Ventura won in MN during the impeachment, and maybe if McCain's staffers had let him pick Lieberman in '08.
You'd have to be an idiot to not see that post Obama election, the Democratic platform moved to centrist even as the US as a general population certainly became more progressive as a society. This was a simple strategy due to movement on the right that would in theory alienate moderates. The Right moved far far far to the right in response to a Liberal black guy getting in office with the rise of the tea party who thought they were fighting to save the country from becoming EVIL Canada and the other wing of the Republicans which became the Trump coalition that was a party of troll racists. The Dems strategized to pick up the moderate independents with a platform that was broad enough to keep progressives and also pick up the former Mitt Romney types. It didn't work because they discounted the fact that people in America "come home" when it comes to voting and tend to just vote how mommy and daddy vote, and still associate Christian = Republican because of one issue (pro life). Recent news shows that the Dems are doubling down on this strategy by accepting pro-life centrist candidates to run in historically Republican districts in 2018. Not sure if it will work when it didn't work in 2016, but regardless you are an idiot if you think the Democratic party has moved further left instead of centrist. Of course they try to have their cake and eat it too with the Bernie wing of the party, but I think the evidence shows that he's not a Democrat and neither are alot of his voters who something like 12 to 15% of voted for Trump. But the party platform since Obama has mostly moved to moderate views as opposed to Bernie progressive views even though they technically have a joined partnership at the moment.
I think they were just chilling one day and "My Fellow Americans" came on HBO. It inspired their idea. My favorite Jack lemmon movie from the 90s era not many liked it though. Cool cinema story.
I doubt this unity ticket becomes a reality. If it does, I'd consider supporting it...but I'd prefer a unity ticket with stronger, more electable candidates. I think a Kasich/Hickenlooper ticket would get annihilated...whether Trump is running for reelection or not (due to impeachment or resignation). It doesn't matter what their policies, qualifications and experience are. They are too uninteresting, uninspiring, boring and forgettable for the electorate and the mainstream media (which still has plenty of influence)...you need celebrity and charisma (and plenty of $$$) in order to have any realistic shot. There's a reason why very few people voted for Kasich in the 2016 GOP primaries. Moderates in general have very little chance, unless the candidate is very media-savvy in how he/she expresses himself. And an anti-Trump 2020 independent ticket would likely just split Dems and independents, handing the election to the GOP. The vast majority of people who actually vote, including most so-called independents, have a partisan lean towards Dems or GOP. Most true moderates and independents tend to stay home and keep their distance from politics. That said, I wouldn't call Kasich a moderate. On some issues he seems somewhat centrist, but on others he's pretty damn right-wing and closely aligned with VP Pence. I also suspect that his personal core beliefs are pretty solidly socially conservative, despite publicly speaking favorably on a few policies and decisions that are moderate or even left-center. He seems like a decent guy (and an actual adult, unlike Trump), but I can understand why some people warily get a "wolf in sheep's clothing" vibe from him.
Wow, so much hate for Kasich. Why? Voted for him in the primary. Would love to see something like this happen.
