Will the Williams and Cato plus picks deal for Rahim be available in the off-season. I think if we could do this and sign Webber we would have the best team in the league by far. Then if we resigned Mo we could play he and C-webb at the 4/5. 1 Francis/Mooch 2 Mobely/? 3 Reef/Langhi 4 C-webb/Rogers 5 Mo/Collier ------------------ "We messed with the Bull, and we got the horns." -- Larry Brown "quote" from AirBullard.com
I don't want Shareef... Instead I want Shane Battier... We don't need a star SF if we have Webber and our backcourt... We need a role player... And Battier would be as good as they come... Can stick the 3, rebound, pass, play d, block a shot or 2... In other words, he'll be everything that we wanted from Horry... ------------------ "Awesome baby!" Dick Vitale
What are the odds of us getting Battier? He is said to have a more complete game than Grant Hill. I don't see us getting him unless we trade for a higher pick. ------------------
I'm a bit skeptical on Battier. Don't get me wrong, I love him as a college player... I like Duke, and I think Battier is a terrific person. But is he *really* that good? Coach K gets 120% out of his players. Last year, that turned Chris Carrawell into a player of the yera candidate when he was at BEST a marginal second rounder in reality. Battier is certainly a pro-caliber player... but we should we both miss the playoffs and luck out in the lottery, I'm not sure i'd spend 1-3 pick on him. Obviously, if he were on the board at 13, you'd have to snap him up in second. ------------------ Boston College - Big East -East Division Regular Season Champs Worst to First in 2001!
"He is said to have a more complete game than Grant Hill." Battier is a great college player. But he is not in the same class as Grant Hill when he was in college. Hill carried his Duke team to the Final Four his senior season. Battier is on a loaded Duke team. Battier has a good shooting stroke. He can take a charge as well as anyone (which is not THAT great of a characteristic). He is an average ball handler. He finishes well around the basket. But where is his in-between game? Can provide some weak side shot blocking. But I think he's vaunted defense is a tad overrated. Good feel for the game. Decent athlete. Could be a Rick Fox type of a player in the NBA. ------------------
I would love to have Shane Battier on this team, but there is no way we will be able to draft him with one of our picks, epecially if we make the playoffs. We might be able to trade our pick(if we don't make the playoffs) and Mil.'s pick for a top 10. Then we might have a shot. I also believe that Battier is good enough for us to let Shandon go in free agency. ------------------
Where is the logic here? Yeah, let's pass on the stud SF because we have a stud PF. HUH? ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
I understand Kid's reasoning. It's the trailblazer question. Which is better? A team of all-stars or the right combination of all stars and good role players. You need roleplayers on your team that don't demand the ball but contribute in other areas. If everyone wanted the ball then you'd have turmoil in the lockerroom. Although if the deal is right I'll take any superstar, just as long as it doesn't hurt the team as a whole. SAR seems like the type of player that doesn't want the ball to be in his hands in crunch time. He's Scottie Pippen Part 2, if we had Webber then we could use a Scottie Pippen type. SAR's not a leader, he's a follower, and we don't need a leader so I'd be more than happy to get SAR as long as the deal's right. As far as a deal with Cato and Williams and picks for SAR, I don't know how we'd cover for the Center spot Cato would leave behind. Mo's definitely not a center, and Webber definitely doesn't want to be a Center. We'd be extremely weak at the Center spot if we gave up Cato. Maybe we could sign a decent C to take his place? If we could do that then I would be fine with giving up Cato for a quality SF that doesn't have mittens for hands. ------------------ Forget LHutz, Bob Rainey is by far the coolest poster in cc.net history!
Hakeem will have his rights renounced, then, for the good of the team, after Webber signs(under the cap), he will pull a Barkley and sign for $1 million. ------------------
I doubt that the SAR deal will surface again, because the coaches decided that he doesn't play "D". However, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cato for LaFrentz deal resurface. That's assuming that Cato doesn't continue playing like he did in the SA game. ------------------
Da Man, Rick Fox was never and never will be the type of player Shane " Who's your daddy" Battier is. The only thing that Rick Fox has is experience. Rick Fox has NEVER been confused with anyone who plays defense. By many accounts, he is considered a decent help defender. Shane not only is a great help defender but an excellent on the ball defender as well. While I certainly wouldn't say he's Grant Hill, I definitely believe that he can be the next Michael Cooper. Coop was the type of player who took the opposing teams best player and locked them down and was guaranteed to score 13pts, grab 7 boards and give out 4 assists. This is what the Rox need. I would definitely look to trade up if possible. I think that Shareef is not the answer. He wouldn't fit in well with Cat, Wink and C Webb(assuming) or Mo Taylor. Shane on the other hand wants to win and has never cared about his stats, just what it takes to win. ------------------
