No idea who they are or if they're any good, ha, but a number of commits the last few days. https://twitter.com/Joseph_Duarte/status/875387847691448321 https://twitter.com/Joseph_Duarte/status/875445839208079362
Seems like Applewhite has been targeting players who don't have a ton of offers or are possibly underrated by the recruiting services. We've had a good track record in the past (for example, William Jackson was a two-star guy whose only offer was from us), so I don't have a problem with the star ratings. We'll get an idea of Applewhite's eye for talent.
Anthony Young (native Houstonian--Furr high school/UH/NY Mets/Astros) passed away (brain tumor). He was 51 yrs old. RIP!!!
UMass transfers Dejon Jarreau and Brison Gresham committed to UH Basketball today. They will attend juco for academics in 2017-2018. I think they will both have 3yrs eligibility starting in 2018-2019. I am trying to find out for sure.
That Eloph injury hurts. Need better play from o-line this year and not great to lose depth at this point.
Class of 2018 PG Antoine Davis committed over the weekend. He is the son of TSU Head Coach Mike Davis
Looks like 4-star Defensive End Isaiah Chambers from Aldine will be joining Oliver on the line. I believe he's going to be a sophomore, moving back to houston cause his aunt (guardian) was diagnosed with something.
He redshirted last season as a freshman at TCU, so he's still a freshman. If he chooses UH the already tough d-line will be a monster next season. I'm sure he's fully aware of Oliver since Westfield is right up 45. Maybe the NCAA would give him a hardship waiver so he could play this season. Technically he hasn't picked a new school but Houston has to be the choice. Texas and A&M are actually close to home if someone is sick.
I wouldn't think Texas would be an option because an in conference transfer means he will lose a year of eligibility. The family illness could get him a waiver where he wouldn't have to sit out a year.
I would doubt Texas is a strong option since UT is the a few hours away, I only included UT because they were on his radar originally along with A&M.
Believe he loses a year of eligibility regardless of conference. More likely that Patterson would restrict him from transferring within the conference though. But yes the NCAA could grant a hardship waiver.
If he gets a hardship waiver we are going to wreck shop on D this season. Regardless if he has to sit he will probably end up getting a season of eligibility restored later on. Feel bad for the kid's circumstance but I'm hoping he can help himself and his family here with the Cougars.
