I see CP3 improving us at least Win Share wise by 2 to 3 games but I can't fathom what Melo could do..... on paper yeah but he has to make a good amount of 3s and still play Defense......talented 3 and D.

there's only a handful of true elites in the league, that would form to be considered actual "super teams" and all those guys happen to be locked in their respective teams now.

It's gonna happen imo and before the season.

Look at the schedule released yesterday.

Opening night rockets vs Warriors on their ring night.

Rockets new big 3 vs Warriors juggernaut.

That's a great way to hype up the season and opening night.

Gets ppl interested in if the Rockets can really dethrone the mighty warriors.

And if the rockets win?!?!? Ohh boy NBA will have got exactly what they want. The season long narrative would be insane.

I'm sure the Rockets are wanting to get him as soon as possible. It's not for lack of want that the deal has happened yet.

As to what Woj said, as @The Cat pointed out in his latest podcast, anytime there is a prolonged trade negotiation, there are ALWAYS reports to the media about one team being willing to wait for some future date and then it is ALWAYS followed up by a report that the other team is willing to wait or has other options, etc. It's called playing the leverage game with the media.

I agree, but you know Clutchfans will cannibalize itself every time Ryan Anderson has a poor game. Which will be almost every home game. ;)

I've always had the feeling that these one-off stories about "Melo to Portland?" or "Melo to New Orleans?" have been attempts to help New York with some kind of leverage. Either way, they're just funny.

This is silly. It's like standing at the base of a mountain, walking several minutes, then feeling like those steps were a huge failure because your not yet at the top of the mountain.

CP3 was a huge step towards competing with the Warriors but obviously we need more to compete with an all time great team - still, you are NEVER going to get there if you don't get all star players. Whether it happens all at once or in incremental moves - it's all part of the same journey....and let's be real - CP3 and Melo aren't ideal candidates to put around Harden, but it's "available" and still makes us better than nearly every team in the league so you gotta do it.

Paul is a big step, Melo isn't. The Melo of 7 years ago might have been (setting aside issues of ideal fits and all) but the current Melo is a not particularly efficient volume scorer who plays terrible defense. He adds fame to the squad, but doesn't make them more likely to beat the Warriors.

as a team's 3rd best player, he would be better than anyone in the league not named GS so I'd say yes he does give them a better chance. not sure how anyone wouldn't see that

I think the idea is to have Team USA Melo, a highly efficient third guy. It'd/it'll work better if Dan Tony will trust his new roster and not grind seven or eight guys into the ground while three guys who can contribute sit waving or sucking their white towels on the bench.

If you still consider him a star, sure. I don't. I think he's more or less an average player these days, factoring in both sides of the ball.

I don't consider him a super star no but I still say hes a very good player. And as again your 3rd player and in a perfect role, hes as good as it gets in this league

You really can't come to that conclusion without recognizing what Melo went through the past 3/4 seasons(2 of which were great, 1 he was good but missed half the year and last year the Phil/Triangle drama didn't help)

And he doesn't play terrible defense.

Melo will be the best 3rd best player in the league.

He'll likely be 2nd in scoring and rebounds, 3rd in assists and probably hit 3 3s a game at 38% playing off of Harden and Paul

He's better than Ryno, that is all that really matters. Improving the team.

Carmelo Anthony might not be a superstar anymore, but he is definitely very much still a star and can score at will.

There's no way this gets done without more teams getting involved.
