What's funny too is .. They actually used the word mandate. That they had a mandate to trade him to the rockets. I think that was in the new GM press conference, but can't remember.

Love when people on here say the Rockets have no leverage. I might be mistaken but Melo is still a Knick, right? He hasn't been traded to a team that was able to provide the best package? He literally is blocking every trade but to the Rockets, correct?

... how is this not leverage? Melo's decisions this far has been our leverage.

it seems that the Knicks franchise would need to honor their word here. If they told him that they were going to deal into Houston and he do that regardless of having a new GM. you cannot tell a player one thing and then completely erase it because you hire new management. That is really going to burn them with players down the road

They are right in the sense that WE don't have any real leverage. If you stop and think about it, the Rockets have no actual say in any of this. Melo has actual leverage in the form of a NTC. NYK has actual leverage in the form of Melo's contract and their ability to reject trades / buyout requests. We have nothing. Our "leverage" is Melo only wanting to come to Houston, that's it. If Melo decides to waive his NTC for the Bucks for example, there is nothing we can do about it.

    Just nit picking.

The Knick's leverage is they don't have to trade him.

Melo's leverage is he can tank, be mildly disruptive or veto any trade.

Melo only wants to go to Houston. That lets Houston sit at the negotiation table. Houston has some leverage, but the 2 other factors have more.

Melo got the Knicks to deplete their assets for him back in 2011, he got the Knicks to give him a NTC and a 15% trade kicker back in 2014 (this past season, only Melo, Dirk, and Lebron had a NTC), and he'll get the Knicks to send him to Houston

    anybody doubting this #BakedPotatoBomb

give it time, history has shown that the Knicks will eventually cave when it comes to Melo and give him what he wants

This is like asking a player to take a short term pay cut so that the team can secure a 'superstar' and promising that the pay cut money will be paid back on his next contract just to end up negging on their word and not honoring their promise..'completely erasing their commitment' because that superstar player they secured ended up being a quitter.

    amirite?

    It's fairly obvious what happened.

The Knick front office had been worn down by years of horrible organizational culture and were prepared to move on from Melo. A new actor was introduced (Perry) who has not yet suffered the emotional fatigue of working in a high stress, low results environment and he still has a glimmer of hope remaining that he can alter the course of this trade.

This has been verified by Cod who revealed the other night that Perry is trying to get Morey to unload that AIDs-tier contract of Noah.

Unfortunately we now have to wait until Perry's spirit breaks and he comes to the same realization as the others that he will have to move on from Melo for little to no return.

No way the Knicks go into training camp with this Melo drama still going on. They are not going to want every question at their season opening press conference to be about how unhappy Carmelo Anthony is with still being a Knick. It's just a matter of time now and the troubling thing if you're a Knicks fan is Morey knows it.

    Our patience will be rewarded.

You probably shouldn't underestimate just how much of a joke that franchise is. The normal rules don't apply.
