CBFC: Totally. Totally blows my mind. Half makes me want to learn Chinese so I could go over there and chat with him.
seeing a 310 lb 7'6 guy sweating over confronting a 5'9 150 lb bald, undernourished guy brings tears to my eyes. but one eye is laughing and the other one is crying.
oh, absolutely... it's completely surreal if you ask me. But I think that's why some of us love Yao. He's still unaffected by the NBA star machine that makes asses out of so many. I also agree that this is just seems to good to continue, but maybe it will...afterall, YAO is of the internet generation and seems to be quite comfortable with the technology.
I mean, poor Chronicle. They can not get a juicy player quote to save their lives, but Yao gabs on about his nervous meeting with Lord Vangundemoort like he is a sixth grade kid meeting with the principal in a public, online diary in Chinese. I would bet precisely zero NBA people know about this. Maybe I am wrong. It just seems too much. Makes me wonder what other weblogs would look like. Mobley: Dear Diary: I had that nightmare again. Sitting on the bench at Boston Garden, naked, with everyone laughing at me. Like my therapist said, I can no longer try to live my life by making other people happy. I can no longer turn over the power of my feelings to anybody else, which is what I have done a lot of my life. Gosh. Francis: Dear Diary: Rudy T. called again. I know I told him I would always be there for him, and truth be told, I really do miss him in a lot of ways. But being his shoulder to cry on is really hard for me right now, and I feel like we need some time apart. He is all, like, "let's go fishing this weekend" and I am like, "come on, you know its the regular season and I can't go." I wonder if he is trying to make me feel guilty. talking about basketball is totally awkard. He was like, man, I really liked 24-high, didn't you? How many times is he going to bring it up? i'm like, 'yeah, i guess i thought is was great...' I worry if I say anything it will crush him. I am really torn, here. apparently CD totally ignores his text messages.
It's like Yogi said about thinking and playing. He couldn't do both. Yao appears to take coaching to heart so he has many conflicting thoughts when he gets the ball, goes after the ball and so on. He'll start to flow. Smoothly. This guy is a good man and is destined to be a great player.
It's astonishing. Absolutely mind-blowing. I find so much bizarre, cool, strange, geeky, delightful: 1) Yao takes the time to do this AFTER game nights. 2) He is humble enough to chat with his fans as equals 3) He shares thoughts and anxities that are quite sincere, even intimate. 4) All his thoughts have an undercurrent of deep intelligence and self-reflection. 5) That boy can write ! Not sure how much is due to the translation, but Yao has a gift for peppering his sentences with style and panache. His imagery is wonderful, poetic. As a wannabe writer myself, it makes me melt with jealousy that not only is Yao a dominating force on the court, but the guy can write cirlces around me!!! Too good to be true. All right, Batman, let's enroll in an online Chinese class together. We'll chat with Yao yet.
One of the coolest things about this is that someone started a thread a few days ago about the Rockets should let Yao play his game and not turn him into a brute! Looks like JVG is realizing the same thing.
I am surprised by how well yao could write (in chinese) too. very unusual for most sports guy. Now I firmlly believe yao has the IQ/EQ potential to become a great coach or manager after his career as a player is over. I see another larry bird in the making.
Ming stroke me as a man who talks with inteligence everytime I read his quotes, in chinese. It seems like almost any of his quotes has deeper meaning than what you thought when you first read it. I'm jeolous, too.
Yao indeed can write cohesively. It's pretty easy to translate Yao's posts because he writes clearly and logically. Based on what Yao said about what JVG told him, seems like Ewing is not really wanted/needed anymore? Maybe Ewing isn't the right person to coach Yao afterall and he is knocking Yao off track. There may even be some stuff that Yao knows more than Ewing.
What i'm perplexed by is why the Rockets didn't have Moses Malone work with Yao. Malone even said, via reporter, that he wanted really badly to work with Yao, just like he worked with Hakeem his rookie year. He said, "I'm waiting. All they have to do is ask." When a hall-of-famer offers, you don't leave him hanging.
okok...In this thread Yao replied to fans regards Steve Francis, I'm not sure I can translate it properly, maybe someone can translate it. (where is W&S?) I think Yao can do whatever he wants, he's not a slave to basketball. So, he'll likely continue even if others suggest him not to.
It's really a trip reading this stuff. And thanks for the translations, people. I just hope Yao keeps doing it. Amazing.
