    some funny Matthews quotes:

"I’ve received numerous e-mails from very upset parents. Those parents don’t think it is a good idea to expose their children to this unwed mother business at such a young age. I agree with those parents. Kids today are exposed to enough bad things in our culture without the school district helping"May 28, 2003

"Would you think that books dealing explicitly with sexual activity and including graphic illustrations would be in the children's section of our public libraries in Fort Bend County? Well, that is just such the case. A local women's Republican club is going to the trouble of circulating a petition to have the books moved to the adult section. Why is this even an issue? The county librarian should simply go pick up the books and walk them over to the adult section and stick them way up high on a shelf." October 22, 2003

"Do we have a right to go to a public library and look at hard core p*rnography? Maybe we do -- following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Leonard v. Texas. Oh, wait, that applied to a right of privacy in your home. And this is about public libraries. I guess the operative word here is "public." The installation of filters on computers at public libraries to block out p*rn sites is really a non-issue. Filters are already installed on computers that children can use. Now this latest contrived flap is over computers used by adults.

I say contrived because unless I am mistaken, the public library does not routinely place hard core p*rnography among its books and magazines and periodicals. Am I wrong here or can you go to the Fort Bend County Public Library and look at some really raunchy stuff? I don’t think so. So how can someone have a "right" to use a computer in a public library to view the same garbage? The simple answer is you don’t have such a right.

Right now the county library system is going to examine the issue of how best to utilize filters to block access to p*rn sites. From what I understand this technology is a long way from being perfect. Fort Bend County officials are right to be concerned about inadvertently blocking access to legitimate sites. But I believe those concerns can be allayed. Of course there are those who claim the county is going to censor what adults can view. Most notably the American Civil Liberties Union does not like the idea. Frankly, who cares?

I am the last person to call for censoring anything. I believe you have the right to view and read anything you choose. But county taxpayers should not be obligated to provide it for you. If someone wants to look at that smut, then they can do it in the privacy of their home. After all, the U.S. Supreme Court says you can do just about anything you want to do in the privacy of your home. How desperate does someone have to be to want to go to a library to look at p*rnography?" http://www.fortbendstar.com/Archives/2003_3q/071603/matthews071603.htm]July 16, 2003[/URL]

"The United States is a Christian/ Judeo nation. I think over 70% of Americans identify themselves as Christians. The rest are Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, agnostics, atheists, and those that marry off their daughters at nine for a few camels and maybe a goat if she is cute. There is no reason that Christian/Judeo America has to put up with this. We are the majority. If someone’s feelings are hurt, if someone is offended by the phrase "under God," then that is just a shame. But I don’t care anymore. We are the greatest nation ever to exist in the entire history of this planet because of the good graces and the blessings of our God." July 3, 2002

"Didn’t Tuesday, November 5, turn out to be a wonderful day? Democrats across the county, the state and the nation got an old-fashioned behind kicking. I still bet now Democrats are sitting outside their singlewide mobile homes under a WalMart awning, smoking the Prince Alberts and sipping on a long neck trying to figure out what happened. I will tell you what happened. Americans are sick and tired of the Dems big government approach to everything. The position of Dems is that for every problem there is a big government solution calling for more taxes, more control, more regulations, more meddling in our lives. Here is the message Americans and Texans sent to the Democrats. "Go away and leave us alone." The next time I walk into The World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon I expect to see a shrine with a giant posture of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay with lighted candles and incense burning. Juanita should bow to the shrine at least five times a day." November 13, 2002

"But officers realize this could be a time bomb for them. If an officer stops too many people of a certain ethnicity then the officer could find himself or herself having to explain why to some guy who sits behind a desk.
I want to get in on this. I have an old pickup I drive from time to time. I am going to have the windows tinted as dark as the law allows. Then I am going to get emblazoned on the back window in big Gothic letters the name "Wong-Fuentes-Washington." I’ll never get pulled over again. What do you think?"October 9, 2002

I've not noticed any such tendency. I thought you were talking about something much more complex-- the way some respondants weave several grey-boxed quotations into their textual responses.

Why does this matter to you? Can you not decipher? One is bold, the other is not. Does it matter which is which? When you hit the little icon to replicate the post you want to respond to, the replication is created in a non-bold regular text. So I put my part in bold to differentiate.

I know from your earlier remarks that you think this is some kind of ego trip for me to put my comments in bold. It's just easier to type the HTML codes for bold while I'm typing my responses than to locate the beginning and end of each segment of the re-posted text that I want to respond to and insert the HTML codes and then go about adding my comments.

If this is really some standard that I am obliterating, I will consider changing. I'll be on the lookout.

No, it's not hard to decipher, it just seems you're doing it do be different since you're the only one who does it that way. Everyone else who doesn't use the quote feature (Major, glynch, Timing, etc.) bolds the section they're responding to, not their own response.

Forget it though, I don't know why I even brought it up.

I don't either because it doesn't matter a rat's ass how you do it. You just want to rag on me and now you're pissed because you can't get me to conform with your wishes. Examine your motives.

I'm not sure where you're getting the "pissed" part from, I'm just fine. And no, I don't want to rag on you. I would've brought it up regardless of who was posting that way. Hell, I've even given my own boss a hard time about his not using the quote function. But, I'll let you continue to try and be the little conservative martyr you so desperately want to be on this board.

Disregard last sentence of my post. No need for that and no need to derail this thread any further.

    Sorry for the constructive criticism.

Wherever this came from is the same place I discerned the other pissiness.

Here's another one: "Forget it though, I don't know why I even brought it up."

Here's another one: "Sorry for the constructive criticism."

What's up with you? At one point we had a workable relationship. Now it seems to be back in the ditch as you snipe at me pretty regularly. This is the second time I've asked about it.

If you want to discuss this further, email me. I'll spare everyone here the rest of the discussion.

That was simply a public slap at myself for bringing it up. I let little things that don't matter bother me on the BBS sometimes.

Just trying to show that I didn't mean anything other than what I typed. I'm not out to get you.

And I believe I answered you last time that it's nothing. There's really only been two posters (or one, whoever you believe) that I've had something going on with the last year and a half or so, and I've solved that problem by taking advantaqe of the ignore list (a great tool, if you ask me). I have no vendetta or anything like that against you. Sorry you feel that way.

Whatever. I thought we could be friends in a distant square Uncle-distant hip Nephew kind of way. I'm game. By the way, you'll be glad to hear that they dropped Dr. Laura from talk radio in this market... :)

No problem. I guess I'm just different from some in that, since I've met you and, more importantly, liked you (not that I've met anyone from the board that I didn't get along with!) then I didn't think something like this would be an issue.

BTW, exposing yourself to kids is bad. Jon Matthews should hang out with that A&M player who got busted pleasuring himself in a car yesterday. :D

It shouldn't be. The first time you brought it up you asked me if I put my own words in bold-face as some kind of monument to my ego. Now you say that your pursuit of this is just "constructive criticism." Can you see why I might be confused and defensive?

I really do it the way I do because it is the fastest way-- as in fewer keystrokes and mouse relocations.

That last line completely invalidates the apology. The use of the word 'constructive' illustrates a deep rooted anger that you are are failing to properly subdue. You apologize, but you are so angry that you can't resist the urge to get in one more insult.

If it is the same Jon Matthews I think it is, he used to be teamed up with Moby on 97 Rock back in the day.

They were on (7 and on 101 for a short time before Moby pissed off the execs again..and he moved on.

I had no idea Matthews was still around till this..but it makes sense..Matthews was always the conservative voice of reason to Moby's insanity.

If this isnt the same guy, Im sure someone will tell me.

I figured Moby would be dead already of a heart attack. I think I first listened to him about twenty five years ago.
