Full transcripts of Trump's calls with the Australian prime minister and president of Mexico from earlier this year have leaked. First let me start with this. These call transcripts are currently classified documents and it's shameful that they were leaked. I hope the DOJ investigates and catches the person responsible. Now, regarding the calls themselves...yikes. Embarrassing stuff really. Trump doesn't look like much of a negotiator and he freely admits that Mexico isn't paying for the wall but basically begs the Mexican president to stop saying it publicly because it looks bad for Trump.
I don't. Trump reveals classified intelligence programs and leaks sensitive details for personal gain all the time - potentially the kind that get people killed like the infamous Israeli intel leak to look like a big man in front of his Russian bros, or when he revealed the arming Syrian rebels programs last week. The concept of Trump and his henchmen prosecuting anybody for anythign that makes Trump look bad is odious and reeks of the type of thing that fits very nicely into the authoritarian/kleptocracy playbook they wish to be running but thus far have been too inept to pull off - and is exactly the type of exemption from rule of law that he believes he is entitled to. **** that.
So much for the crackdown on Leaks from Kelley and Sessions. Although this easily could have come from Mexico or Australia I suppose, but what Trump and his fans don't realize is that the majority of these leaks are obviously coming very very close to Trump himself. In some cases his own family (in the leak of Don Jr's email).
I pointed out to a Trump fan yesterday how literally any story with negative PR consequences gets a follow-up "leak" of Jared and Ivanka's thinking on the issue and that they don't agree with the President. I said "gee, I wonder where that comes from" and the person just refused to say it was possible, must be a staffer that thinks they are helping, the Trumps would never "leak" too much loyalty.
This Brookings Fellow appears to agree about inappropriate leaking, but... ... also does this raise concerns that past conversations/meetings between Trump and Russians were done without anyone to take notes?
Must suck to be a Trump supporter right now. Their leader just got exposed, dude was practically begging the Mexico president on his knees to not talk about the wall. Pitiful.
Jeez, is this real? So damn embarrassing. Sorry, but likewise, if you support this PotUS in any way shape or form, you are a disgrace to the US as well.
And of course, there is a tweet from Trump that comes back to haunt him... btw, back when these phone calls took place the press reported on them, about Trump disagreement with the Mexican president about paying for the wall and about the full-on argument with the Australian PM during their call. Trump and his supporters labeled those reports as "fake news". These transcripts showed the original reporting was embarrassingly accurate (in fact, worse than reported) and again, show Trump is dishonest, incompetent, and embarrassing to other world leaders.
We obviously have a press that doesn't want the president to do his job in any capacity and will report anything for views rather than public interest. The fact that the president is a senile 70 year old whiny baby shouldn't cloud that principle but it's getting really really hard to care about principles.
Since these were leaked, how can you verify the authenticity? They were obviously leaked by a person or persons hoping to embarrass the president. Therefore one can reasonably assume that this person would have no problem modifying and altering the transcript to make the president look bad. Cannot give these any credibility whatsoever.
I'm amazed how easily Trump fans outright dismiss things that make Trump look bad as "lacking credibility" or as part of some conspiracy when they are the same people who believe all of the Clinton conspiracy theories, the Obama ones, etc. without a single "credible" piece of evidence to back them up.
LOL! Yes, better to hide your head in the sand and just simply disbelieve this since it shows Trump to be an idiot. Why face that actuality and instead just disbelieve it.
Wow. It has sunk to this? I know there is no words, nor action that you could possibly criticize Trump for, but based on what was reported at the times these calls happened, and coupled by a steady stream of missteps and misstatements by this president over the past seven months, do you actually question the content of these transcripts? the question of who is leaking these? Would have to be someone in the white house. Perhaps someone in the state department. But someone high enough up to get access to this level on material. At this point I suspect the "leaker" believes they are helping the country by letting the citizens know what was said. I also suspect there is no reason at all to alter the transcripts. But hey... maybe Sarah Huckabee Sanders will explain these comments as "misstatements" or even typos. You can choose to believe her spin... its in your safe zone. btw, my apologies if this in anyway sounds like an attack on you. I actually give you credit for wading into this thread... I suspect most Trump voters, er, defenders will avoid this thread like kryptonite. Maybe someone will revive the Trump-CNN meme thread?
