Wow. Breaking news being discussed on the "Dan Patrick Show" right now. Latest report says he's going to be deactivated with the intent for being released. What the hell happened here?
Non-production but I don't know if that could really be ALL his fault some of it has to be on the QB. Hope Philadelphia scoops him up, they need a big-name WR. Go Eagles!!!
It would be nice for the Texans to pick him up. AJ, Keyshawn, Bradford, and Gaffney. Man, what a receiver lineup!
ESPN.com news services In the latest shocking development from a championship defense gone awry, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have deactivated former All-Pro wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson for the rest of the season, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Tuesday. According to Pasquarelli, Tampa Bay likely will look to trade Johnson after the season, as it believes there are several teams that are interested in acquiring his services. The NFL's trade deadline for this season passed in October. Although the team has not yet released an official reason for the move, Johnson had openly complained in recent weeks about not getting enough passes thrown his way and his on-again, off-again relationship with Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden is well documented. An eight-year veteran and the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL draft, Johnson has 45 catches for 600 yards and three touchdowns this season -- his fourth in Tampa Bay after starting his career with the New York Jets. For his career, Johnson has 603 catches for 7,936 yards and 48 touchdowns.
I agree. Why deactivate him and not just put him on the bench in case of an injury. Sounds as if Gruden and Johnson had a major fallout
With the NFL cap, you're better off cutting a high-bonus player, rather than trading them, unless you can get draft picks for them.
Hmmmm, Wasn't Kevin Johnson released 2 weeks ago? I smell a conspiracy of young white coaches cutting black WR's with the name K. Johnson. NFL better send a probe into this.
I hope he does not come to the Texans. We don't need a cancer like him on our team. As for him in Dallas, Johnson and Glenn w/ Galloway in the slot is one deadly combo. I'd like to see him in Minnesota though, I hate the Cowboys.
Keyshawn didn't ask to be released. In fact, Gruden never TOLD him to his face, he cut him while he was traveling to the Bucs next game, how bush league is that? I don't buy into the whole thing that Keyshawn is a cancer, Tampa Bay's passing game is horrendous and it caught up to them. The Buccaneers are going nowhere fast, and this just looks like a panic move to jumpstart the team. One possibility, though I doubt it would happen, is him going to Cincinnati, his cousin Chad Johnson plays there. But I think he'll go to Dallas, they need him badly. Their offense is horrendous and he would be a big boost there.
