At this point I would be totally ok with giving Sipp away and continuing to pay the rest of his contract so that he could pitch against us.

It would be free runs for us.

Sipp never recovered from 8th inning of 2015 ALDS. Team needs to hire a shrink.

Reed is definitely a bum. It really sucks Moran got a freak injury that will probably keep him out for the season.

    Sipp is trash.

AJ Reed is the white John Singleton.

I thought we signed Jumbo Diaz to pitch for us, not bat 2nd and play first base?

Jeff didn't do any moves. I wouldn't have either if they wanted to strong arm into giving up one of fisher, whitley and Tucker so I get it. But he has to have a move to prevent hinch from using Sipp. Thankfully it was an 10+ run lead. It's just asking for trouble.

At this point, it may be better for everybody if Martes is back in AAA getting regular work and continuing to improve his mechanics.

There has to be a veteran down there or somebody that eventually passes through waivers that the Astros can hand over the mop-up role to.

One huge difference....AJ Reed was never given ten million.

Funny to go back and read this thread.. Astros score, everyone comes out saying "SEE WE DIDNT NEED TO MAKE MOVES WE ARE AWESOME" Then I could specifically tell when in the thread the 8th inning happened and our bullpen was exposed.

I'm glad we got to keep Fisher, but Martes/Tucker were fine to go in my book. Can't believe you guys were so hellbent on keeping them after we saw what happened with untouchable Reed and Musgrove. Reed just popped out with Sucre pitching... in the infield.

Sure, when this offense is blasting for 10+ runs none of it matters, but in the playoffs, when we are going against the best pitchers the other team has... we can't rely on double digit runs and I trust no one but DK and Peacock right now.

We don't know for sure that he wasn't offered it though.

They offered up deals for Grossman and Matt Dominguez (where is he now?) as well.

Singleton was the only one who bet against himself (smartly).

Who said that? I saw posts making fun of the thought that the clubhouse would be so depressed that they couldn't possibly go on. I haven't seen anyone say it was a good thing we stood pat.

I haven't given up on Reed yet, because I remember JD Martinez.

However, I'm wondering at what point they might let Reed try to be a pitcher.

I figured that Kemp would've been the one called up since it gives them more positional flexibility and replaces Aoki's ability to put the ball in play. Might still be the case if Reed doesn't do something.

Bregman's numbers continue to trend strongly, up to .799. His slash line for his first full year very well may be better across the board than Correa's was. He doesn't have the best player in baseball upside that Correa has, but this could end up being an extremely strong campaign for him and the establishment of another cornerstone.

He got f**ked over in the WBC, so he didn't have a proper Spring Training and he got off to a very slow start, maybe there's a connection, maybe not. But if you go back to April 12 he is slashing .274/.356/.472. Projecting that stretch out to 162, we are talking 20 HR, 98 Runs, and only 98 K's vs 65 BB's. Over the last 2 months, he has actually walked more than he has struck out.

Hot streaks come and go, but that kind of plate discipline usually sticks.

Bullpen is looking like a hot mess right now. Hoyt flamed out, Feliz flamed out (he's injured, I'm guessing?), Harris to the DL, Martes looking shaken, Musgrove looks ok, but not a stellar option, from his limited appearances out of the pen. Not counting Sipp, as I assume he won't be on the roster in the playoffs anyway. Leaves us with Devo, Luke and Giles, none of whom have had their A game for the past couple weeks. Really surprised that Luhnow didn't make another move or two. I guess we should be excited about McCullers coming back in a couple weeks and Peacock going to the pen, but Peacock has been our best starter for the better part of two months.

JD had over 800 plate appearances with the Astros, and he never appeared to be anything more than an average player. Unfortunately, he blossomed at a late stage. Reed has only had 140 plate appearances against MLB pitching. While the early signs haven't shown a lot of promise, it will be a while before anything definitive can be said about him. With Gurriel and Gattis presumably being on the roster next year as 1B and DH options, I don't see where his plate appearances will come from as an Astro.
