....do they view the game tape just the same as we watch on TV? Are they watching and listening to Bill and Calvin as well? Or is the commentary muted out? Or is it a totally different tape? If they hear the commentation, perhaps it does them good, or maybe it makes them mad? Just a thought.......anybody know?
I think they just have a direct feed of the "main" (the center court/default camera) camera with no commentary etc; somebody probably edits out the pauses for JVG, or maybe he just fast forwards.
They get a direct feed from their broadcast team. In addition, they have software that allows them to break down and catalog every play based on a wide range of criteria - our offense/defense, opponent offense/defense, fast breaks, passing, shooting, rebounding, etc. The video coordinator is able to put all of the clips into a database that can be downloaded to a computer and viewed in a variety of ways - even with telestrators, etc - or sent out to a VHS tape so players can watch them at home. I have to believe they have DVD capability by now, but I know the whole thing is pretty damn sophisticated.
So Jeff, in other words, they can quickly provide Moochie with a tape from that night's game. A tape, for instance, consisting of play after play of Moochie bringing the ball upcourt, dribbling around with seemingly no direction, head down so he can't possibly see open cutters to the basket, or head up but simply ignoring teammates with open looks, choosing instead to dribble into a crowd, and finally passing the ball(with about 2 seconds left)to anyone in any color jersey or jacking up a wild shot. Moochie can then take such a tape home that night, watch it, see the error of his ways, and make the proper adjustments. Oh well, perhaps he at least takes it home.
each team has their own person video taping the game. its from a very wide angle so you can see all 10 players at the sme time. this lets the coaches figure out what kind of plays and defences they will use. also, there is no commentary on the game.
