I've been watching a ****load of games the past couple of weeks on League Pass. I've noticed and even some broadcasters have mentioned about some calls that Referees make. Its ridiculous to the point, where a player cannot even play his normal game. I say light up a little on the aggresiveness of some players. Let them play ball. As soon as a center tries to be a little agressive, he gets an offensive foul called on him. But yet he gets double-teamed and makes a turnover with hands all over his body, and you rarely see a foul called. This has alot to do with Yao, ive been watching him get a little aggressive and he gets called for an OF. Whats everyones opinions on this? Also can teams make appeals on bad foul calls after a game for investigations to be made? Whats everyones thoughts on this?
Wrong, I mentioned this long time ago. So it is not the first official appearance. I want to say it again. The coach not only needs to manage players, but also manage referee relationship as well. Phil Jackson is a master in this, that's why Shaq is getting all the calls.
No I agree with the first poster it seems like the refs keep getting worse and worse. I still don't understand how if you are a high profile star you get all the calls or no calls and if you are anyone else you get screwed. It is not about who is more established or been in the game longer. a foul is a foul.
My opinion is that this belongs in the NBA dish forum http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8 I however also think that Players should be left to play the game. I do not wish to see street ball, but I hate when refs overly break up the flow of a game. Hell Coaches are supposed to break up the flow of a game when a team goes on a run. It seems every team has more than enough timeouts these days. coaches used to have to manage them. and teams used to score 120+ a night
The thing that really bugs me about referees is that they have whistles. They should have something cooler, like tubas. That would rule.
my biggest problem with refs is that they do not call the game consistently. What is a foul on one end of the court is quite often not a foul on the other end of the court. They seem to change what is a foul to fit the situation and quite often the player. What is a foul on Shaq is certainly not the same as what is a foul on most of the others. I especially hate it when the ref waits to see if the shot goes in the basket before callilng the foul. Hey if its a damn foul call it. And don't just give the benifit of the call to the player with the name give the foul to who deserves the foul and if you don't know then don't make the call at all. A foul should be a foul regardless of when it is committed, who committed it and regardless if the shot drops in the basket or not.
The lob definately wont work all the time. But im sure the rockets could manage at least 2 in a game. Yao needs to face that he will more likely be double teamed this whole season, and Ewing needs to take his experience and teach Yao different tecniques inside the post. Seems like Yao only knows one way to post up, and he goes to the basket the same way everytime. Unlike Hakeem that used so many different moves. Of course hakeem had lightning speed. But most Centers are bigger now and thicker. All that weight they put into Yao, yao should manage to use quick offensive moves to his advantage and height. They should even get him involved in the pick n roll with francis cause hes good at making that longer distance jumpshot.
Yesterday's game was very physical, and for the most part they let the players play. But then they call that really weak offensive foul on Yao in one of the overtimes. It was just completely inconsistent with the rest of the game. That was the one time Yao demanded and got the ball in the overtimes.
