    50 years later it is one of the most dangerous, depraved, uneducated, and neglected cities in the US. It is the largest municipality to ever file for bankruptcy. Changes in homicides in Detroit, like that of Chicago, can swing the US homicide rate by a significant amount.

    Has it become better off since then?
