In the preseason and the 1st two games in the regular season, Yao made about 66% of his shots, including fadeaways, baby hooks, etc. However, since then, he has kind of lost of shooting touch. I am wondering whether this is because he is trying to shoot more after initiating contact or for other reasons. BTW, A. Davis fouled him at least 3 times in Yao's shots in the first half and none was called. In the 2rd half, the referees suddenly began to call those fouls and the Raptors then decided to just hammer Yao. I guess that if Yao wants to shoot after initiating contact, his fame will be largely in the hands of the referees. Any thoughts?
During the last four preseason Games the Rockets played a completely different Game as to the way they are playing now. They ran plays for Yao Ming and he was the focus of the Team. In the Games that count he is mostly used like a scrub by the Guards.
In the last couple of games, i noticed his leg movements. He seems really fatigue right now. Right about 4 mins into the 1quarter he already looked tired. After playing 50+ minutes lastnight, he wont be ready tonight. I guarentee it. But hopefully he'll prove me wrong. He needs rest right now..
come on, the guy's shooting 50% FG. at least top 5 in the NBA. and you're complaining about that??? sheesh.... you should take a look at stevie francis and mobley.. each 43% ers...
No, this is just a discussion. Yao was shooting at an incredible percentage from the floor in the preseason and the first 2 regular season games. Then he started missing those easy shots and I am just questioning whether that has to do with him shooting with contact.
thing is... teams don't play defense in pre-season games.... just like in all-star games.. if i remember correctly, Miami Heat went 7-1? or 6-2 in the preseason games.... lol
Yao definitely has fatigue problems. Out of the six games in which he has more than 10 field goal attempts, he's hit 50% twice. Last year, it was 20 out of 42. He also seriously broke down in April last season...
ATrain, every physical symptom has a cause. What is causing Ming's chronic fatique? Is he out of shape? He shouldn't be after playing all summer. In my early twenties I never mentioned the word "tired." What is going on? Were the blood pressure rumors from China during the summer true? Does Ming have a serious health condition? Don't you think that he, his parents, or the Rockets would want to know what is wrong? Something definitely is wrong, and the sooner it is found out the better. What do you think?
Simple answer, because he is doing something he is not used to. If you would to convert Shaq from a power player to a finesse player, I would guarantee that Shaq will be a 20% shooter. Not saying Yao shouldn't have more power in his game, just that he is not going to be highly accurate for the mean time. But in two years once he has his power and finesse game down, watch out, he is going to be a 60% career shooter.
In the 1st quarter of the Toronto game (which is when he missed most of his shots), it looked like he was forcing them. People keep telling him to shoot more, so even when he's not comfortable with a shot he's gonna take it now...to please JVG, Ewing, the fans...who knows... And he gets tired too quicly too, which is not going to help his average. As for nbalive: Top 5 in the NBA with 50%...try #17...and why do you compare percentages from a guy who shoots from 3 feet max with our guards ? doesn't make any sense...and this post isn't about Cat or Francis, it's about Yao...
lol.. i highly disagree... shaq a 20% shooter? he can't even hit 50% from the stripes when nobody guarding him.... let's just say.. he can't score 3 feet away from the basketball... and if you force him to shoot outside of his "comfort zone" which is 3 feet... his % would probably be like 10%
I think it is because he is trying to change his playing style, to be more aggressive. He has to adjust his shooting and mentality to his new style. It will take some time. He will pick it up eventually. Of course fatigue is one reason, but not the main reason.
I agree with this analysis. Yao is going through a transition right now in his style of play. Give him some time to adjust.
yao will be in top the 5 shooting percentage wise by the end of the year. the season is still early and some stats r inflated. just like rebounds. i bet by the end of the year there will be only a handful of guys avging over 10+ rebs.
I disagree, I don't think it is physical tireness. Maybe mental tireness. He played 50 minutes last night and he is still running to the end. I am not saying he won't run out of gas by the end of the season, I just don't see it now.
I think it is going to be more like one or two years before the transition is complete. I would be happy if he could be a 40-45% guy by the end of the season. But it doens't sound that bad, power game has the advantage of getting a lot of fouls called. He will be probably getting a lot of points from the free throw lines. On the other hand, he will probably having more foul difficulty throughout the season.
