Yeah absolutely. Electric bill, cable bill, etc. you have to shop. I'm shocked at how many don't shop all of their plans and are convinced that you can't really save much money.

Yeah, I just kinda assumed our bill was reasonable because she never complained until I started digging for some cost savings opportunities.

Cable bills are crazy. Obviously if you aren't a cord cutter you pay more (I'm not a cord cutter) but I'm shocked at how many people just have say Comcast or DirecTV and haven't negotiated their price in a decade.

Have any of you who complain about ACA "Obamacare" lived in another country for a prolonged amount of time? I've lived abroad /traveled extensively and the US healthcare system + health insurance companies are easily one of the most bogus things I've encountered. Republicans who keep fighting it just seem to ignore and refute that there is the possibility 'grass is greener' for healthcare.

Thanks for the insight. If I understand you right, those plan prices are more tailored to your individual risk. So people with low risk don't get big increases and they would choose to reamin, but people at high individual risk would have seen big increases and switched away. Is that how it works?

    Exactly right.

It's why people or companies gave up their plans back then. They were getting hit hard every year for their own personal/corporate risk so they switched to community rated plans. When the community rated plans started blowing up there was nowhere to turn for most of those people who made the switch. The ones who kept those plans are now the winners.

Of course, the reason the switched was because the prices were pushing them out, but that's also not an ACA issue. That would have been an issue for them regardless. Sick people/high risk companies were getting killed pre-ACA and now everyone is getting killed together. (Unless they still have those grandfathered plans!)

I am always amazed that when a company does something incredibly sh!tty
to save money . . .the blame is external

A company can make a billion dollars a year
new regulation would make it only make 900 million a year
the company then does something shitty to push profits to 1.1 billion
    Then blame the regulation
    and people actually buy it . . .. . . . .

Not .. . the regulation was not bankrupting them
    THEY ARE BANKRUPTING YOU!!!

Those plans did not HAVE TO go away
The insurance companies saw an opportunity
to get rid of them . . .and still remain blameless for their greed
They could blame Obama .. . get rid of plans that were tilted toward the customer
and only offer plans that tilted toward them
    WIN WIN WIN

This is very simplistic. Every company isn't rich like Apple

Not just in healthcare Americans have to stop thinking like this.

Actually the insurance companies tried to incentive people to keep those plans and they still do.

Insurance companies are the ones who lobbied hard to get transitional relief extended every year. They know those plans are better for customers AND better for them.

Insurance companies have been very innovative in the small business space to get premiums down where the law allows it.
