MINNEAPOLIS -- Kevin Garnett had 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists as the Minnesota Timberwolves overcame a sluggish start to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 91-76 Sunday.

The T-wolves also got 17 points from Terrell Brandon and 13 points and 12 rebounds from reserve LaPhonso Ellis.

Minnesota, which was 0-for-6 from 3-point range in the first half and trailed by as many as eight points, hit all four of its 3-pointers in the third quarter and outscored the Cavaliers 30-14.

Minnesota opened the half with a 13-4 run to lead 60-51. The Cavaliers cut the deficit to 60-57, but Anthony Peeler hit his second 3-pointer of the quarter put the T-wolves up 65-57.

Ellis hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Minnesota a 77-61 lead.

Cleveland made just four of 16 shots in the quarter after shooting 47 percent in the first half.

The Cavs were within 82-65 and had Chris Mihm at the free-throw line with 9:08 to play in the game. But Mihm missed both free throws, and Chauncey Billups hit a 3-pointer to extend Minnesota's lead to 20 points.

Wesley Person led Cleveland with 13 points.

Minnesota moved 1 1/2 games ahead of idle Houston for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The T-wolves are a half-game behind Phoenix for seventh place.

Garnett scored 13 points in the first half, which ended with the teams tied 47-47.

    Notes:

T-wolves coach Flip Saunders on Garnett, who has averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds over the last 11 games: "He's been through this time of year, and he knows there's a sense of urgency. That's when he takes his game to another level." . . . Minnesota has won five in a row at home. . . . The Cavaliers are 8-25 on the road, 16-17 at home.

Is that true? 1 1/2 games back now? I thought it was half yesterday so them winning today would make it 1 game..... [IMG]

Note: It was my cowhead. I started the cowhead craze, and my cowhead inspired Mooch to step up and bring us a victory. Thank you for your time. :D

It's nice to know these writers research the facts before printing them. [IMG]
