I don't really want Tilman, but I do think he's going to put up as much he can possibly put together to buy the Rockets. I don't think the numbers even have to make sense, it's going to be a pride/ego thing. He thinks of himself as the King of Houston. He wants the Rockets. He knows this is likely his one chance at it in his lifetime.

I'm curious who he will partner with because I don't believe the figures I'm seeing thrown around. He doesn't have billions in liquidity to just throw around. Not a chance in hell. He's going to have to partner with some deeper pockets.

Is this guy related to the Fertitta brothers that owned the UFC. Christ I don't want anyone in that family touching the Rockets

That's true, but for the most part he let Morey run the show. I'm talking like Cuban/Dolan type owners. DO NOT WANT.

Doesnt hurt to get that mob seed money err 'loan' wink wink at such a young age. Good for him and the boys I say.
usually by time you are rich enough to buy a team chances are a % are from nefarious.. but this guy is 98% mafia cheese.

But we shouldn't assume that Fertitta would do things any different than Les. He might, but we really don't know. I would expect him to be a more visible owner, but not sure he would make a lot of changes in the way the team is run.

The team has been pretty successful, so I would hope that he would put a lot of trust in Morey.

I don't know how he will do as an owner, but he was more than generous with his financial support to UH when it came to the overperforming football coach and his demands for better facilities. And of course, that was without the chance of any real financial return.

    I'm fairly sure that he'll pay CP3.

As for Morey being independent, I'd like to imagine that he would be as much of an interventionist as Les was. In other words, approving coaching hires, and pushing for chasing big names.

Also, while i respect the nostalgia some have for Kemah and Galveston, i don't understand how this applies to the Toyota Center and the Chinese sponsored Rockets.

What exactly are you guys worried about, overcommercialization?

I think he'll be a milder Cuban. Even then he'll be more outspoken than most folks would prefer.

    I'm down

Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta said Monday he has an interest in purchasing the Rockets.

"I definitely have an interest," Fertitta, the Landry's restaurants founder and CEO and gambling mogul, said. "Just hope it doesn't go for crazy numbers. I've never really wanted to own a professional team outside of Houston. Houston is my hometown and the place I would prefer to own a professional team."

The Rockets announced Monday that team owner Les Alexander will put the franchise up for sale.

Fertitta has previous ties to the Rockets, serving in an advisory director during the franchise's championship seasons in 1994-95.

"I've known Les (Alexander) since he purchased the team 24 years ago," said Fertitta, whose net worth is listed as $3.1 billion by Forbes. "Les has been a great owner for 24 years. He's won the only two major championships in the history of Houston and has kept the team competitive for 24 years. It will be big shoes to follow for whoever buys the team. (But) I definitely have an interest."

Fertitta also was one of the original investors for the Texans, serving as partner until 2008 when he had to sell his share in the franchise to comply with NFL prohibiting team owners from having an interest in gambling-related business. Fertitta owns Golden Nugget casino locations in Las Vegas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

The NBA does not have such a rule that would prevent Fertitta from pursing the Rockets.

In addition, Fertitta hosts the CNBC show 'Billion Dollar Buyer' and also serves as chairman of the University of Houston Board of Regents.

That's just a boss move though.

As for the guy...the only pro that matters to me is that he keeps the team in Houston.

I hope he's a good owner...impossible to know these things until he has moves to judge him on.

His pride/ego could mean that he takes losing very personal and could be like Mark Cuban...

Or he could simply be buying the team for his own ego and that's it...guess we'll find out

Fertitta is a UH guy and has a deep respect for everything Les has done for the organization. He might be a "personality," but he doesn't make outlandish decisions. Could do a lot worse.
