Hey, I'm not saying that you have to give up. I'm just pointing out that I have given up. ------------------ Re-elect President Gore!
I am impressed with the positivity on this board. I hope it isn't all in vain. ------------------ Re-elect President Gore!
Hey ZRB you're finally starting to make some sense even too me ------------------ Rasheed Wallace gots mad skilz. Who cares about the techs?
Let's see, ZRB defines "complete embarrasment" as losing to a good team on their home court in the 2nd game of a back to back. What do you call the 2 games Portland lost to the Grizzlies last week? It was an unfortunate loss and the Rockets picked the wrong time to go cold, but for the most part they played well. There were the usual questionable decisions on the parts of the players and the coaches and the refs, but you can generally find those in any disappointing loss. ------------------
If I were a Portland fan, I woul call those losses: A complete embarassment, and a deathblow to the season. If the game had been close throughout, I would have been okay with this loss. The fact is, the Rockets blew yet another gigantic lead thanks to a combination of terrible decision making, and bad coaching. The refs were amazingly biased, but they shoudln't have been in a situation to lose this game. ------------------ Re-elect President Gore!
Not to digress, but "a deathblow to the season"? Does this mean that a Portland fan (since you started the quote with "If I were a Portland fan"), should now expect the Blazers to have NO chance at the championship? You certainly have a right to your opinion, but your drastic conclusions from a loss are generally out of line. Houston lost a big game they could and should have won, but they still have an opportunity to make it up. Potland is a good team that is (for the most part) already assured of a playoff berth. To imply they have no chance at a championship because of 2 losses that everyone will forget about come playoff time is absurd. ------------------
I will feel the same until the Rockets have locked up the 8th seed and tip off in game one of the playoffs. This was a great win, but the Rockets are still 2-14 against the elite. They made some nice comebacks, none better than tonight, but I still am not convinced. When the Suns and Timberwolves die off, and the Rockets soar into the playoffs, I will eat my words. Until then, I stand by this. I think the Rockets are a playoff quality team, but that doesn't mean they will make it. Hakeems loss has given me further doubt. This was a great win, but they need to be consistent. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
Good point. Where's the consistency in this team? They've only won 16 of their last 20 games. ------------------ Forget LHutz, Bob Rainey is by far the coolest poster in cc.net history!
16-20 against bottom feeders and eastern teams. They have been consistent in losing to everyone else. 2-14 against the wests' elite says it all. Aside from a win over the T-Wolves and tonight's win against the Spurs, every other win in this twenty game stretch was against a crappy or eastern team. If the Rockets can do well on this road trip, and start beating Utah and Phoenix, then I will feel they have become consistent. I love some of the wins they have gotten over the last few weeks, but they really haven't shown me that they can hang with the really good teams. I don't want to take away from this stretch, but I also don't want to give them undue credit. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. No, you misunderstood. I don't think they will MAKE the playoffs, but I think they are a playoff QUALITY team. In other words, they are as good as a playoff team, but will miss them because of some of those earlier losses to the Clips and Suns. See the difference? Look, I used to be very positive about the Rockets. Any time I got really positive and excited about the Rockets, they would go and lose a huge game. Days of depression would follow. Now, by setting my expectations low, I can be pleasantly surprised. I thought the Rockets were going to lose to San Antonio before they even tipped off. When they won, I was elated. It was much more satisfying to get an unexpected win. Most of those games during the 16-4 stretch have been expected wins, so my level of satisfaction has not been quite the same. Anyway, by setting my expectations low, and predicting the Rockets to miss the playoffs, I will be absolutely thrilled if they do. It will mean a lot more to me. I don't want to get my hopes up, only to have them dashed like a Stockton buzzer-beating three pointer. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball.
