Honestly, the Knicks buying out Carmelo might not be the worst thing in the world for them. If Melo is only going to waive his NTC for HOU/CLE and the Knicks won't trade him because they can't get much in return, they'll still end up paying every bit of his contract out, but if they keep him on the team it'll hit their cap. Now, if they buy him out, they can open up cap space for the next two years and prevent themselves from taking on any garbage contracts through an unwanted trade. Fact is, the Knicks have backed themselves into a corner because of the deal they gave Melo 3 years ago (which I thought was stupid considering the state of the franchise at that time AND Melo's age), and because they've made terrible roster decisions since them. The Knicks are screwed either way and I think they just need to bite the bullet and get it done already for their own franchise and other teams involved. Dragging it out is only going to make things worse.

Unlike D-Mo, Melo holds all the cards. Knicks best options are either to trade him where he wants to go or buy him out. They can't go into camp with Melo on the roster.

It's not that complex. Melo is willing to waive his clause to compete for a title on a team with a banana boat buddy. So unless Portland acquires one....

My concern. The Knicks could say "eff it, we're going to drag this out till next season". By doing that they'll force Melo to either comeback or expand his list. The only thing we have is the PR disaster the Knicks will take by re-nigging on a trade they promised to get done. This would send a horrible message to other players about the character of the Knicks. Do they care enough to trade Melo to us? We will see

All 5 teams involved in the trade, including the Knicks, expecting to land Melo.

I saw it yesterday as well, but thought it was 4, not 5. Seems like Bucks,Pistons,Knicks,Rockets, and suns are all involved. Just a guess

If anyone deserves to break down a 5 team trade, it is Clever hoops.

Clever Hoops isn't reliable man. A 5 team trade just for Melo? Can anyone even recall a 5 team trade ever happening in the NBA?

Blazers fans on twitter after reading this post: "well, we can get Melo now and next summer we can unload all the bad contracts we have with our good assets like Harkless, Aminu...and sign Lebron"
