Possible, but as we discussed earlier today, four-team deals are extremely delicate because any random FA signing or outside trade offer can completely change the equation for one of the non-principal teams. I could see working on it for another day or two, but stringing it out for a week or longer on those types of secondary goals feels quite risky.

Yeah I agree, just trying to create possible synergy between these reports and make sense of an unusual set of circumstances and the timeline.

At this point I 100% believe that the relevant parties all believe the deal will happen and Melo will be a Rocket. Too much evidence there.

So then why is it taking so long?

I mean how do you make sense of a report that says we are still trying to make it work with a fourth team and then says we actually have a team (Pelicans) that is volunteering to get involved but we are still "in the middle" of the process. That doesn't make sense.

 

Oh man, as a New Yorker, I would be so happy if a deal goes through. Getting rid of Carmelo is my fantasy. Dude has been an absolute loser, a cancer. He is no superstar and barely an all star in my opinion, but I'm terribly bias. Hope a change of scenery will revive his career.

Would be very interesting to see how he would work with Dantoni since he made him quit in New York. And three of the most ball dominant players in league history sharing the ball, I'm intrigued. Don't expect warriors type offense because Melo can't pass for ****. Either way, win win for both clubs.

 

If Pelicans are really involved then could be Omer Asik contract that they're trying to find a 4th team for. Feel like eventually Brooklyn will end up taking on a bad contract to gain a few picks

You read wrong. I didn't imply anything, I flat out said he was avoiding talking about it. So there nothing there to take from the statement and make news. No need to be like that, I'm just reporting what I heard live on the the broadcast.

 

Anyone who has a minimum-to-$2.4m contract they don't want/need will benefit from trading him for Uthoff as part of their Leonard burden, then cutting Uthoff as salary-reduction sweetener for taking Leonard. Or that 4th team might like Uthoff. It's not far-fetched to think he'll make a team this year.

Replace Leonard with your player of choice from the 3rd team who is holding up the deal as the guy NY doesn't want and HOU can't fit.
