So the Rockets have cracked the 3/60 contract rock of Ryan Anderson and now need to........ find a way to move the 3/31 contract rock of Meyers Leonard.

A pure salary dump of Leonard would probably cost a #1 pick and possibly a #2.
The more likely (and harder scenario) is that Leonard goes to a 4th team AND the 4th team sends a player that the Knicks find acceptable or a player that makes less than Leonard.

I haven't heard anything in over an hour, but my guess is that the issue is finding a home for Leonard.

Who said they necessarily are? We're all speculating. My main point, though -- if Morey already agreed to do that, then it's a sunk cost. That's already being factored into the analysis. At that point, if I'm Daryl, I wouldn't let the deal derail over one other protected pick. (That said, maybe the Knicks kick in something to help, or it also might be possible that the Knicks would be open to taking back salary rather than simply cap space -- which could reduce or eliminate the need for sweetener.)

 

love and melo do not hit the same shots. they're completely different offensively

 

Saw Woj on espn about an hour ago and he said he would be surprised if Melo wasn't dealt to the Rockets.

If the issue is a #1 pick, I don't think that either team lets the deal die over a #1 pick.

It seems that right now the issue is Leonard and his 3/30 contract.

If it came down to it, the Rockets could simply give a #1 and perhaps a #2 to a team with space to take Leonard.

The Knicks get Harkless and shave quite a bit off their bottom line the next two seasons.

I think this deal gets done and frankly the smoke from Nene, Harden and Paul only put more pressure on Morey to get it done.

There will be a lot of disappointed players if this deal doesn't go through.
