For those wondering.... Daz is currently 2-2 with a 2-run homer (9) in Quad Cities' contest with Clinton. Too bad May (.163/.230/.213, only 1 RBI) really tanked his numbers. There's still some upside... a strong finish should help take off some of the tarnish. 2018's going to be a cruical year for him.
Jake Rogers hit a go-ahead 3-run homer in the 8th to give Buies Creek a 4-1 win over Down East. He's now got 13 on the year.
Cristian Javier in a relief appearance for Tri-City: 5.2 IP, 2 H, BB, 9 K Javier now has 31 strikeouts against 9 walks in 19.1 IP this season between TC and Buies Creek. If he's gonna keep doing that with Tri-City they may as well send him back to Buies Creek...
I don't think anybody can genuinely say they feel good about Daz as a prospect right now. But not only were they writing him off, they got downright offended that anybody would dare suggest that there may be some hope.
Roughly .240/.320/.480 with 9 HR and 13 SB in 52 games. He'd have a wRC+ of around 130 as a 20 year old in A ball, so he'd probably be getting significant hype as a rebound prospect. He'd have a 26% k rate and 10% walk rate, so detractors would still point to the swing-and-miss. We can't totally ignore his horrid May (or his struggles last season), but the takeaway is that there is the possibility that he's really improved and is on his way to realizing the potential that had him in the conversation for 1-1 3 years ago, had him on the BA Top 100 two years ago, and has had folks all along say he is a 5 tool guy with star potential.
He's showing more power than anyone thought he'd have so far this season. I think most people thought he'd be a 10-15 home run kind of guy. The talent is clearly there, hopefully he will put it all together at some point.
On a slow track, Daz's gets to the majors when he is 24. He has plenty of time to master A-, A+, AA and AAA. Players like Correa and Bregman who fly though the minor leagues are the exception that makes the rule. The odds are not in his favor, just like very other minor player. The Astros have shown that their minor staff can develop players into prospects into major leaguers. Daz's odds are better here than elsewhere. Daz will have to put in the work. Having a MLB father and having grown up with close exposure to the MLB business, Daz should know what it will take to get to and stay in the MLB.
