One of the things that's often overlooked is that employers are obligated to make up the difference if the employee did not make minimum wage with tips. Not that minimum wage is good, but let's not pretend that these workers don't get at least minimum wage.

No one tips me at work and I dont' expect a tip

In most other countries, tipping is considered an insult.

Doesn't beat the story about Rashard Lewis tipping the pizza delivery guy a buck after signing his 100M deal.

Used to work at a high end steak house in college. Famous black athletes rarely tip well, except Shane Battier he was the man.

What I don't get is calling them out on social media. If your the business then it can hurt your business calling them out. If your the server it can get you fired for calling them out. I try to always tip well because I don't want any ill feelings of the people handling my food...but that's just me. ::smh::

I dont like the tipping system either. As a dude your probably not going to get tipped more than a girl with sex appeal. Servers should just get paid.

On topic: Robertson apparently already tipped $100 earlier on the tab and that particular tab was for a $400 bottle. So essentially he tipped $13 for someone to take 2 steps to grab something for him which is way more than I ever got tipped for any glass of drink I ever brought out for my customers. He's in the right in this and the server should be fired for that kind of slander against a patron.

Off topic: I never understood the people who rail against tipping. Perhaps it's cause I like take-outs, but there's no way I want a system where I am getting take out but the price of my food includes waiters who does no service for my meal. I often don't dine in because I can save 15-20% on my meal, which wouldn't happen if restaurants are forced to pay their waiters and bartenders so that their salaries are reflected into the food prices. If you don't want to pay a tip, don't eat at the restaurant. If you dine in, pay the ******* people bringing your food cause the restuarant certainly isn't paying them jack squat.

Things like THIS is why US tipping culture needs a change. There's too much judgment calls, discrimination issues, sexism, ethnic stereotypes, social pressures, biases, all kinds of things tapping into people's (usually faulty) decision making.

I tip well over average. The reason isnt SO much about generosity. Its to keep purchases short & SIMPLE on the safe side, where I DON'T have to think about all kinds of factors. (Like: Not supposed to objectify women, but women make a killing off their looks from males objectifying. My tipping contributes to that, therefore I'm complicit. Or I need to tip males more for "equality" to even the scales.) Thats waaaay too much going on for potato skins & onion rings.

No one likes uninterested lazy servers, so yeah its nice to get some urgency with the tip system. But I dont really want to focus on the personality and efficiency of the server either to guage where and how my dollars get allotted. 95% the time I just want to eat & drink lol. I'd rather a 10-20% gratuity forced on to purchases than some "Optional but really not" tipping system.

Today I ordered carryout at Dominos Pizza. The PLEASE TIP line is FIRST thing comes up when using a card to buy. Its maybe partly to even the scales with the delivery drivers who get more take home pay with tips (even if drivers assume more risk using their own vehicles, and such)

Its becoming customer INconvenience though. Too many prompts and nag screens, pressuring the consumer to compensate for salaries. My job I drive all around making deliveries. I dont create/cook/mix the products, but its still labor intensive picking and lifting things much heavier than pizzas. Its not even CLOSE to getting a "tip", barely even a thank you lol.

(Depressingly, automation can take my job in 10-15 years, so really lots of people will probably be begging others for "tip" type payouts eventually lol)

Repeating my post from first page. According to TMZ, him and his boys were ordering drinks, including long islands, which are a PITA to make. Ive never even worked in the service industry and I think it was cheap af.

Even if it was for bottle service (which it wasn't), you know the deal before getting bottles. That's not a legit excuse. If he said the service was chit, that's a different story, but he didn't. You wanna pop bottles like a baller? Tip like one.

He said he tipped $100 for like a $200 tab. Unless he's lying, as someone has also worked in the tips industry, I can say that is MORE than enough.

Your last post said $100 on a $400 tab. I did see something earlier where he tipped well at the next restaurant, probably to save face, but not the first one. Why wouldn't that have been his initial defense versus what he said?

Yeah I got the numbers mixed up. Actually I still did cause I didn't think much of the exact amount.

But this time actually checked. Apparently it was a $200 tip for a $100 tab. Make it what you will.

Wow. Well then restaurants are going to have to increase the prices for everything. The guy bringing you that bottle lives off what he makes in tips. A best buy worker is not making $7.50 an hour which is what most people in that form of service industry make. Every dollar makes a difference to these people. If you don't want to tip then buy the bottle at a liquor shop and stay at home to drink.
