Pure speculation, our 'assets' could also gain value.... In all honesty, which do you think is more likely at this stage? That Anderson becomes LESS valuable than he currently is, or more? As time rolls on he gains value via production and a shortening contract length. Then think about whomever rounds out the roster - Onuaku/ Qi/ Hartenstein/ (whomever) --> these guys are far more likely to increase in value if they are part of a winning team, even if they play just spot minutes and log some nice DLeague stats.
We have the best shooter in the league in Gordon based on volume. We have a top perimeter defender in Ariza. We have the best shooting big man in the league in Ryan Anderson. Capela can be a near all star. -Daryl Morey about a week ago.
Ryan Anderson is coming off of 9.4 PPG on 39% from the field and 28% from 3pt land while playing 30mpg these last playoffs. The good news is when your value is beyond **** you have nowhere to go but up.
This is now 5 days old, but is this still a possibility, or has the landscape changed too much for this to be realistic? We are already thin at PF, so any FA signing would have to fill Anderson's void and I'm not sure who is still available.
Holes at 1 and 4 It's easy to see & we're counting on everyone to stay healthy, as much as people talk about Anderson that dude gets hurt we have NO PF let alone no PF that can stretch the floor 1 still need Someone when Gordon needs to rest and when cp takes a game off
Isaiah Taylor? I mean how good do you honestly expect a guy to be who will play 0 minutes unless both CP3 and Gordon happen to be out? That might happen twice all year.... Having said that, I would love to snare a vet PG happy to ride the pine until such a scenario presents itself. Dunno who is out there. No doubt Morey can find a 10 game backup PG and PF by dumpster diving.
We have Paul , which upgrades our top end by a fair margin . But we lost a lot of depth . PJ tucker will help , I think , he's getting up there in age and is a bit of a question mark to me. Ariza is also getting up there and I think he lost a step last season . Hopefully he doesn't lose another this year. Watching kawhi just destroy him was eye-opening (reg season and playoffs). Morey still has work to do . Paul is and has been great and I have no doubt that , with harden, we have two of the best playmakers in the NBA. But IMO so far, Morey has changed the team from a 1 man show that had lots of role players , to a 2 man outfit with considerably less help. Sure you only need 8 at the end, but the season is a marathon , and many of our guys have not had stellar track records in that regard. We desperately need more athleticism. At the wings/forwards we have declining Ariza and Tucker and glued to the floor Ryan . Good teams will abuse that , we will not be able to pretend to stop anyone . Qi , Paula , nanu, Williams , hartenstein, Taylor , Cameron ...These are not (likely) prospects that are going contribute this year. There is no youth on our squad outside of Clint . This reminds me of those early Yao and Tmac teams that had vets with skill , but not enough of them and the young players weren't future stars . Hopefully we can make more moves.
Prediction, the "new and improved" Rockets will not win as many games as last season and will make a first-round exit from the playoffs. Mark it down. This "pick up game" approach to team management is insane. You Morey worshipers are truly deceived. He is not a genius. He is putting people in the seats (Less's goal) but a trophy is not in the Rocket's future under this reckless approach to team building.
I think you may be overestimating what Dekker and Harrell did last season while also underestimating the potential to sign depth. Getting a 9th and 10th man for the regular season is very doable. Having an 8 man playoff rotation is much harder!
how is it reckless? we just got a hall of fame point guard. we may not win as many games as last year, but we'll definitely be a better team. Playoff wins in all i care about.
Right , we still have to sign those guys though. Dekker and Harrell last year may have just looked good because of how great harden is ... I agree . That being said , they are both young players with the potential to improve a lot
Good thread. I feel much the same way and am in NO Hurry to just "make a deal"....cause we sure as hell already have ! I think Tucker is gonna fit so nice with this offense and defensive system. It means solid pro minutes and contributions always, no more, oh well who else can we stick in there ? A Great Looking 2017 - 18 Edition with nothing added or subtracted. Plus hey NENE remains ! Big Balls continues. We are pumped for that mid winter action jackson !
i actually liked that Paul Ariza team. Did Gordon and Paul ever play together? I thought Gordon was traded for Paul or something...can't remember
