Boston would now need a series of transactions to create cap space for Gordon Hayward. The Celtics would have to pull the qualifying offer on Kelly Olynyk, renounce free agents Jonas Jerebko, James Young, Gerald Green and waive the contracts of Jordan Mickey and Demetrius Jackson (or trade). The Celtics would be left with $27.6M in room and likely need to move the contract of Terry Rozier or Marcus Smart. Trading Rozier would have the Celtics short $1M of a max salary a lot.- according to bobby marks espn
great fit for our system as a backup 4/5. he'd probably make more than the vet min on the market, and i don't think morey wants to use the BAE yet, so its not likely. what would it take to land smart? he'd be a piece that NY would like in a melo trade. i'd also be happy to keep him if the melo trade doesn't happen. great 3 and D guy who can guard multiple positions.
Woj just Tweeted that they renounced his rights. I would love Olynyk in Houston and think he'd be an excellent backup big for this rotation, but something tells me he's going to get paid. If Morey could pull off a sign and trade for him using the non-guaranteed deals, I'd be totally on board with it.
No. The math would work but someone else would definitely offer the Celtics way more than we could for crowder if they make him available.
Probably not too much however, since, if the Celtics choose Crowder, teams will know the have to get rid of him in order to sign Hayward.
They don't need to let him go to make this work. Not sure where that's coming from. They can easily keep crowder and probably will. They can run a small lineup with him at the three and Hayward at the four with horford at the five and play a devastating five out
You're right they don't need to, which is why I said if they choose him to trade- from what I saw they'll need to trade a contract in order to make the numbers work.
Olynyk looked solid in the playoffs. He has the size to compete on the glass and a well-developed offensive game. Chris Paul would pair really well with him. He's no Ryan Anderson. I suspect that a lot of teams will want Olynyk. He's a winner.
