Fresh out of luck. I think our SF position is fantastic as it currently stands and there isn't any need to go out and sign a guy just for a marginal upgrade...if there's an upgrade to be had at all. I prefer to keep our roster flexible. Let's wait and see how things turn out before running out and trying to complete the roster before anything has happened yet.

Rockets could have signed Dudley last year, for half the cost of Ryan Anderson.
    3 yrs, $30M

I know, I know, Dudley isn't the elite floor spacer like Ryan & the Rockets would go from a 55-win team to 42-win team.

Anderson makes the most sense next to one of those elite rim protector types.

One thought -- Utah would be an interesting destination if Gordon Hayward is back. With Rubio as a distributor, Hayward a playmaker, and Gobert as an probably the best possible front court mate for Ryan Anderson, I could see it working from a basketball perspective.

They also have an interesting set of contracts to make it work. Derrick Favors is a shell of his former potential, and has 1 year, 12 million left. Alec Burks has 2 years, 23 million left, has only played 100 games over the last 3 years, and is trending in the wrong direction. They also have a team option on Diaw (who we probably want as a NG contract), and a year left on Joe Johnson's 10.5m contract.

I wonder if the trick to a Melo deal is splitting him into 2 contracts, keeping one as the price of doing business, and combining the remaining one with the NG contracts to absorb Melo. It'll be complicated math to make it all work, but there could be a deal there.

    Going wild here...

    To Houston:
In - Courtney Lee, Carmelo Anthony, Boris Diaw (waived)
Out - Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson, (NG - Kelly, Quarterman, Long)
    Why: Melo

    To Utah:
In - Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon
Out - Derrick Favors, Alec Burks, Boris Diaw (waived)
Why: Huge production upgrade; get out of Burks' contract

    To New York:
In - Alec Burks, Derrick Favors, (NG - Kelly, Quarterman, Long)
Out - Carmelo Anthony, Courtney Lee
Why: Get out of of Lee's contract; get younger and take fliers on a couple of talented guys; clear $14M plus from this year's salary alone

Rockets downgrade from Gordon to Courtney Lee off the bench as the price to upgrade from Ryno to Melo. You could potentially add a 2nd rounder (or Lllull rights?). We'd be sitting with a roster of:
    Capela/Nene/Nanu
    Melo/Qi/Uthoff (NG)
    Ariza/Tucker
    Harden/Lee
    Paul/Taylor (NG)

12 roster spots covered, and still about $8.5 million clear of the hard cap (including the NG guys - you could swap them out for other minimum players at no cost). If you were to keep Diaw (who would help), it would only leave a million under the cap and only 13 players.

Ideally, you'd be able to sign a big 4/5 who can play, and another guard for depth (Ellis, Barbosa, Crawford) at the minimum.

thing is, we basically have to have two assets to get a trade like this done; one to make it worth a team taking on Anderson's contract, and one to make the Knicks feel like they got something of value for Melo. Best i can tell, all we can offer is our 2020 pick (which is dangerous considering Paul could be gone and the team could look very different). I just don't see how we have the assets to make anything work without giving up Capela or Gordon ..which would actually hurt our team.

I've convinced myself that we won't be getting that 3rd star this offseason; maybe at the trade deadline if Morey is able to acquire an asset or two before then.

Jared Dudley is great on Twitter. Some guy points out that melo dropped 30 on him and Dudley responds with "yeah but did his team win"

Is he trolling? No way Melo would agree to go to Phoenix right?

This is reasonable.... which is why I suggested something like it earlier in this thread.

However, you swapped Ego for Lee, which is something I do not think Rox will do. Also, probably have to throw a 2020 protected 1st into the mix.

    Something like...
HOU: Melo; O'Quinn 3rd star + front court depth
NYK: Favors; Burks; Diaw; Kelly; Taylor; Quarterman; Long; 2020 1st from HOU (lottery protected) clear salary for 2018 free agency
UTH: Anderson; Lee; Thomas shooting to surround Rubio, Gobert + upgrade at two guard

I honestly think we are just waiting to hear what Hayward says... if he bolts, Utah is probably going to go after Rudy Gay... but the trade would still work for everyone.

Well this is depressing a bit. As of now it looks like we're done.

Knicks don't want Anderson and doesn't look like we have any talks with Knicks. To me it melo gets bought out he would go to cavs. It's closer to NY and he would join a legit title contender and would match warriors stars

Seems that way to me. Although, if you were to take his claim as legit, the one thing he's saying is certain is that Melo will be in Houston.
