I did that last year (Vegas on New Years and then ontot eh Fiesta Bowl). Better book your hotel in Vegas too. No place ont eh strip will let you in on 12/31 since teh streets are blocked. You may have to stay off the strip for 1 night. May want to look at flights to Phoenix if it is the Fiesta Bowl. We got really cheap flights last year (I think $100 round trip from Vegas to Tempe).
Actually, I got a damn nice hotel room at the Westin Casuarita, which opens November 20th for $141 on December 31. It's on Flamingo, 2 blocks away from Bally's on the strip. Should be pretty good. But, otherwise, hotels are ridiculously expensive for New Year's in Vegas. My second choice was the Stratosphere for $119/night, but I hear that it's become really run down lately. Besides, it's really far from the action on the Strip. Also, the Golden Gate on Fremont had rooms for $93/night, but I'd rather stay away from Fremont. I'm actually looking forward to driving through the desert. Should be like what I see in the movies. Might take a detour through the Grand Canyon, time permitting.
If Texas and Michigan meet in the Rose Bowl, my dad has promised to get us tickets (he being a Michigan grad and me being a Texas-Ex). Talk about a dream come true!
I'd just as soon stay home than watch Stoops administer another smooth BF of the Horns. The Rose Bowl matchup with Michigan or Ohio St. would absolutely kick ass.
True, Baqui, but it'd be an experience just to go, all the same. The Final Four was awesome last year. I could've gotten 5 nights at the MGM (29th-2) and airfare for $475 a couple of months ago. Not too shabby.
Damn, $475 including airfare is an awesome deal. I hear New Orleans is insane on New Year's. Too bad Sooner fan would have to be there with us.
Eh, you're right. They do have a tougher schedule than LSU, though I still do think that LSU easily has the higher quality single-game win in their win against Georgia.
Loses to who? Mizzou, KSU, or Nebraska? Those guys all suck. The biggest test the Sooners have left is at Texas Tech. Sooner fans will show up big at the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City, not too far from Norman. So they can hop in their Camaros, put on their Jeff Gordon jackets, and head up I-35.
You can lose on any given week. (Well with the exception of Baylor). I can see OU having an off game, KState having a good game, and OU losing at the last second or something....it's not like they HAVEN'T choked the last few years against lesser opponents... So would OU be a lock for an at-large bid even if they lost in the Big 12 championship? In my mind they've got to be....but crazier things have happened..
If the Sooners lose the Big 12 Championship they will still get an at large bid. If say, LSU finishes with 1 loss, they'd face SC in the Sugar. Wazzu goes to play the winner of Ohio St.-Michigan in the Rose Bowl, so there goes 1 at large spot. But I think to get the Sooners into the BCS they'd be placed in the Orange Bowl as an at large to play FSU/Pitt. The Fiesta takes the Big 12 Champion as part of their contract, and they probably play FSU/Pitt. Hypothetically, it could wind up something like this: Sugar: USC - LSU Rose: Michigan - Wazzu Fiesta: Kansas State - Florida State Orange: Oklahoma - Pittsburgh Holiday: Texas - Oregon St.
true, but i'd bet my life's savings, my soul, and my family's lives that ou isn't losing before the sugar. and once they get there with a month to prepare, well, i pity the team they play. i just don't see how y'all can lose, at least not before the sugar with the teams you have a chance of playing, with the offense playing like this on top of the D. as far as y'all getting an at large? i don't see how y'all would fall out of the top 4 of the bcs with a loss in the big xii title game, which guarantees a bid. i mean ou is #1 by quite a bit and with as unbelievably dominant as they've been, that will earn them some points with voters even with a loss and when combined with the fact everyone else has lost, i couldn't see y'all dropping below 3 or 4 in the polls. the computers would probably like you even more and assuming we don't trip up, y'all will get some quality win points. basically, i can't see ou out of the top 4 with that loss. hell, i'm nervous y'all wouldn't even drop out of the sugar, though i suppose it would happen. and depending on how the sugar goes, the ap may vote y'all number 1 as it is. i don't know. all i know is ou makes my life as painful as possible so y'all ain't losing, and if you do, it will still work out.
The Sooners must not lose. If they lose it may actually hurt OSU's chances to overcome USC in the BCS. OK needs to win out. OSU needs to take care of business and overtake LSU in the polls (either they lose which I think they will or the voters prop up OSU for beating 3 top 15 teams in the last 3 games). Then the computer polls and SOS make up the .46 difference in the BCS between USU and OSU. So please don't mention OK losign that could make for a lot more math to figure out!
A guy I know who roots for Oklahoma told me yesterday: "Either way, the Big 12 championship is going to be cool. We'll probably win the Big 12 and head to the Sugar... but we lose, you guys are screwed." Rat b*stard. Stupid "no 3 teams from the same conference in the BCS" rule.
