Seems like Morey is trying to maintain flexibility for mid-season moves. Apparently under the new CBA regarding non-Bird resigns, we can only give Nene the 3-year variety instead of the 4-yr we wanted to give him. Unless we wanted to use our MLE or BAE, but then our ability to sign complimentary pieces available now (Iggy) or that come up in midseason comes into question. What I don't get is that bird rights (and hence the invocation of the non-bird rights) is only for the team he was with previously for a full season, right? So wouldn't he get the same deal from other teams? Except we are building a legit championship contender, have no state income taxes, AND he already knows he fits well.
