It's called frustration. I just marked tonight as a win and then see what the next two brought. LMJ delivered. Feliz and Hoyt were floaters tonight that someone needed to push the handle on. Who knows. Maybe Martes won't throw batting practice tomorrow. Be glad when we get our full staff back. Proud of what we accomplished with the makeshift starting rotation. But, it is getting old.

Well that game was fun. The bullpen looks super rested and ready to go.

These blowout could of been prevented had AJ put Gregerson, Devenski to close tough innings. We will pay a deep price for pitchers in the trading deadline after teams are seeing Stros don't have a bullpen besides Devo, Harris and Giles.

Hinch trotting out Aoki must be a statement to the relievers who pitched tonight, right?

Hinch will play Devo tomorrow to protect Martes. Who knew the relievers tonight were bad at the same time?

Oh well, can't win every game. Our pace is we win 2 out of every 3 games. On to next one.

Yes, at what cost in October?

When Peacock returns to the bullpen, the Astros will have one of the best 5-man bullpens in baseball - as long they don't get overused during the season because people want to win every single irrelevant game in June or July. That's even ignoring that Sipp has been pretty good for the past 2 months as well. That's more than enough for the playoffs. Of all the improvements to make, I don't think bullpen is anywhere near the top of the list.

I'm very concerned at the tax being put on the bull pen in October as-is.

Starters have to go longer. The implications for October are scary.

They aren't over working the top pen arms though. The guys who will be counted on in October aren't being used too much. We are losing a few games by using arms like Hoyt right now, but that is the only issue

Currently. Most, if not all of the Boston Red Sox relievers have more innings pitched than the Stros pitchers with exception of Devenski.

If we continue getting blowouts, Giles and Harris will not be plexed. Look at the early season of the months compare to recent months, the Stros are getting scored on by a bunch. To stop that is to plug in your best stopper of Devo, Harris and Gregerson during tough situations than have your mediocre pitchers pitch with leads, or leads by other teams. AJ is continuing to put non-reliable pitchers to pitch out of a tough situation and it has not worked. AJ needs to put Hoyt in out-of control situation when we have big leads, or we are getting torn down instead of Aoki, it should of been Hoyt. Most of the arm problems come from starting pitchers because of the mileage on their arms unless they are power pitchers. I only worry about Giles (power) and Devenski (innings) having problems.

Do you honestly think they'll be incapable of resting guys after the rosters expand in September?

With the big lead, I'm more worried about how they're going to keep guys sharp.

after the royals debacle, hinch was asked if he was pitching to rest the bullpen when guduan and hoyt entered to give up 4 runs after having a 7-3 lead, hinch said you can't pitch for the future in this league.

which makes everything more puzzling as hinch this season, more than any season has kept true to his philosophy, even bringing harris or devo to clean up a mess as early in the 5th or 6th. But feliz should never go in with inherited runners. It's not his thing. he needs his space to be wild and free like he is. he does his best work with no one on.
Devo, harris, luke should get to clean that mess. If one is not available then the next one who is. You then give the clean inning to Feliz where more times than not will result in a happy ending. If he gets got, then tip your hats (unless it's the redsox) find the nearest sword and:

I think managers have brain farts just like anyone playing the game. It's just not cool to talk about it I suppose. Hopefully when The trade happens and we get a healthy Dallas, Morton and the forgotten mchugh back, the guys who shouldn't be going in with runners on board won't. But for now, I'd rather see feliz and hoyt with no one on. I feel hoyt will be good this time around next season.

No. Aoki pitched so as not to have anyone else pitch. HInch saw this game as a lost cause. He could have pitched Sipp, but in bad games like this, why not have a little fun. Rather than moping on the bench and in the field, I suspect the players were having a good time watching Aoki pitch.

    Feliz with no one on:

    .214 .276 .414 .691

Feliz with runners on (after last night, so his numbers going in were much better)

    .221 .291 .368 .659

    12 out of 24

eta: for comparison's sake, here's # runners and % scored

    Hoyt: 18, 61%
    Peacock: 3, 33%
    Gregerson: 3, 67%
    Harris: 15, 27%
    Devo: 19, 21%
    Giles: 12, 58%
    Sipp: 7, 14%

eta2: Here's Feliz broke down by leverage

    High: .423 /.448 /.654 /1.102
    Med: .077 /.219 /.154 /.373

That is...something. I really like Feliz, he's still learning.

So, clearly, Sipp should be the first option with runners on.

Obviously. You can't argue with data.
