We would take Melo and reduce him to 3-and-D.

And I'd be perfectly fine with that. Pretty sure Melo would, too. Melo's defense is pretty good; can guard most of the 3s and 4s in the league.

Don't see the Knicks buying out Melo and getting nothing in return for him.

Windhorst: For the time being, no Carmelo trade, no buyout. Take him off the board. Knicks will go forward with him on their roster.

That sounds like angling for a trade...like Anderson and Capela for Melo. Don't do it Morey!

For the time being. Things might change as the season progresses. I doubt they will do anything until they replace Phil which is fine. We could trade our remaining assets for someone like Hayward or George, and then get Carmelo when he is bought out.

Melo isn't elite anymore whatsoever, but he's better than Anderson. If he's willing to take a 3rd fiddle role then fine. Gotta get crazy and pray to compete with GS.

With Phil's exit happening, I think the Knicks are going to be in a holding pattern until they get the new figurehead in place, and they develop their strategy moving forward. The question is does that strategy put them in a position to be a playoff team in any way? If it does not, and they are rebuilding, I think trying to trade him first is option A. They will TRY for a Eric Gordon/Ariza package but won't get it likely. Maybe there is something the Cavs can put together that gets SOMETHING to the Knicks other than a buyout. Option B. is a buyout in which the Rockets and Cavs look like obvious favorites.

However... If I'm Morey I'm focused 110% on Paul George. If you can get George, you do it and worry about Melo if he gets bought out. In that case though the MLE is all you'd offer and you might actually rather spend that money on Nene or Sergio Llull who oddly enough is an under talked about player at the moment who is a REAL candidate to come over now that there is a clear opening for him especially if EG gets traded in a George trade.

I think Morey is focused on George now, and like a rubix cube, you adjust after the last move is made and that next move creates a whole new series of counter moves afterwards.

They are just sick because they don't want him to possibly win a championship with the Rockets. But they will not go into the season with him. They are just probably trying to get a better buyout deal with him.

I know he has a NTC but the Knicks are about the dumbest franchise in the NBA. They need to move on from Melo.

I'm not an idiot so it's safe to say I am ambivalent about Melo on the Rockets. But why the hell would the Knicks want him on the team anymore. It makes zero sense. If they are just trying to bargain hard I dunno. What team would trade anything good for him?? It will just be more team filler. Just get rid of him and start over. Pull a Celtics/Wolves/Sixers and make your own future. sheesh

Isn't elite no more you have forgot about him the same way some people forgot about Chris Paul these guys are ELITE. They just got stuck in oblivion where people don't recognize them anymore.

Melo has NY by the balls with that no trade clause. They don't want him around anymore, the fans don't want him around anymore, a buyout is best for all parties concerned. Are they really going to forego saving money to keep him around and not make the playoffs? It's gotta happen eventually.

    Lololol. Why??

Of course, the Knicks are stupid enough to keep Melo on the roster so who knows.
