Did anyone else watch "Reporting America at War" on PBS tonight? http://www.pbs.org/weta/reportingamericaatwar/ It was interesting to watch the relationship between the military and the press change from conflict to conflict and in Korea and Vietnam, to see how the relationship changed during each conflict. It all depended on if the media was serving the purpose the military wanted them to be serving. In other words, if the puppet still had its strings attached.. Especially the calls that the media was being unpatriotic and helping the "Reds" by reporting negative news on how our boys were doing in Korea and Vietnam and that they should get with the right side. Funny how history has a way of repeating itself. In both cases, the media reported the truth, while the military was more interested in WWII-style rose-colored reports. The reaction to the falling out the military had with the media resulted in the uberlimited coverage allowed during the Gulf War. The reporters interviewed made some excellent points about the effect of technology on today's war coverage - the live coverage. That although technology allows us to be on the battlefield in real time, we really aren't getting a better view of war since the reporter on the battlefield really doesn't know facts about what is going on.
