Does Van Gundy want a true point guard off the bench?

I was reading the Chronicle article on last night's game, and this quote jumped out at me:

"In many ways they outworked us," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "But we outsized them and we out-talented them. It wasn't even close. I just objectively look at them. They don't have much size. They don't have a true point guard. And they don't have enough shooting. We've got size and we've got shooting."

So we have size and shooting, but not a true PG.

I think he wanted Moochie to be that distributor to play 20-25 minutes while Steve slides to the 2, but it's not working. Moochie isn't anymore a true PG than Steve is.

My question is do you think a PG to replace Moochie can really help us? I think a guy like Eric Snow 20-30 minutes can really be helpful to this team. When we fave a tough defensive team like the Grizzlies or Miami getting a guy to push the ball and find the open man can keep us out of those scoring droughts.

This is not about Steve bashing either, JVG is committed to Steve being our starting PG, I think.

I think you're just reading too much into it.

Their plays are not that complex to rquire a true PG. Get it to Yao and kick it out. If they are doubling and sagging on Yao then swing it around the outside to the non covered outside player. Drive to the bucket when the weakside covers Yao and leaves a gap. Take advantage of good defense and speed to get easy transition baskets. Who needs a "true" PG for that?

I think you are reading too much into that. Also, the guy just beat his brother, extending his losing streak, and possibly putting his job at jeapordy. He's just being as gracious as possible saying that we have more talented players than them.

I'm going to go out on a limb...and say you're reading too much into it. :D

JVG was almost apologetic about beating his brother last night. Talk about bittersweet.

I don't know if he was saying that, but I would like to see the Rockets pick up a true pg to take Moochie's place.
