I think they'd have a shot. Sheed was one of the most talented players to play the game, I'm serious. This guy did everyting on the court, problem is, couldn't stay motivated. Ben Wallace was a defensive monster at the time, getting crazy rebounding numbers and blocks. Billups, Prince, Hamilton all played decent to stellar defense. It would be an interesting matchup to be sure, just to see if GSW could match up to their bigs or if Curry/Durant could be frustrated by Billups/Prince.
Anybody remember the NBA in 2004? 79-76 type games were common, people thought the iverson, Steve Francise, Marbury type players were awesome, and for some reason oversized pink tee shirts were in fashion. No thanks.
They beat a 03-04 Lakers team that didn't crack 60 wins, and they may not have won if Malone had not gotten hurt. That Pistons team was a great story, but they were one of the weaker champions in recent history. They would get demolished by this historically good, GSW team. We can blame Cupcake Durant for that.
The Pistons would score 50 points a game against the Warriors. I think the Pistons would be one of the best defensive teams against hte Warriors. Well, they're one of the best defensive teams in history so that isn't really saying much. But they're all tough, can switch reasonably well, could control the glass. I could see them frustrating the Warriors on defense a lot. Problem is Warriors have a great defense too and the Pistons offense would get destroyed against them. The Warriors could probably ease out enough fast break points to get away. Personally, I think 08 Celtics with Garnett at the 5 and James Posey at the 4 is the best matchup for this Warriors team in the post Jordan era. It would be interesting with the 2014 Spurs because that's the highest degree of execution I've ever seen but their talent is extremely lacking. 2013 Heat would be good too. Go with a Wade - Ray Allen - Lebron - Battier - Bosh closing lineup. Switchable and could score in the halfcourt. Could force Warriors mistakes. Someone to guard Durant and take some pressure of.
Yeah people gloss over the mailman injury but that was a huge factor. Also, the biggest break was the .4 second Derek fisher shot. The spurs would have beaten them.
Different era. Different game. With that said the Pistons don't have the firepower to hang with the Warriors. I'm all for nostalgia and have fond memories of 90's- early 00's basketball but this Warriors team is something else. Durant changed everything.
Sure, but basically the same team with Chris Webber instead of Ben Wallace (yes it's a downgrade but still). If the 80% version of the 2004 team lost to those Cavs with 22-year old Lebron with Larry Hughes...
