If I'm on to 2022/2023 ... or some point in the future .... which I have advocated for ... My dream scenario would be something like: Harden for #1 pick, Jaylen Brown, Nets pick next year from Boston Turn that into Fultz, Jaylen Brown, Michael Porter and Luka Doncic as the Rockets would also have another lotto pick next year from not being that good. The lineup down the road becomes - PG: Fultz (6'4) SG: Doncic (6'8) SF: Brown (6'7) PF: Porter (6'10 with SF skills) C: Capela (6'10) Fultz might be more of a scoring point and Doncic more of a passing SG... but the size would be solid.. and they;d be well set up for "modern" NBA. And they'd also have assets like EG, Ariza, PBev they could move to further contribute to the rebuild. And unless they absolutely hit home runs with these guys, they are likely in the lottery in 2019 as well, though not as high. I know everyone hates on this strategy though!
Build a solid hardworking culture. Talent alone isn't the driving factor that pushes an athlete to their highest potential. I thnk what makes the best athletes is their work ethic. Thru hardwork. Man, those Rick the Ruler teams didnt have much talent, but they were fun to watch. Scrapping and fighting every single night. With a hardworking culture, there will always be a fighting chance. Let's start there.
Winning the Paul George sweepstakes would be a start. If/when he gets moved and he's open to signing a long term deal, I think this has to be a top offseason goal. Especially, when you factor in how an upgrade is most likely to come at one of the forward spots.
The people who want to blow it up are the same people who will whine about our inability to get a star and for how bad we are.
they paint this rosy picture of us getting premium assets for Harden, blowing it up and tanking and getting all of these young stars/studs which ultimately ends with us being a contender when GS fades we could just as easily end up becoming a team that's stuck in the lottery for years hoping and praying that we can get that 1 franchise caliber player that's even on par with where Harden is now, and then many years from now we become a 50 win team again
