i was wondering if you guys know any nice places aside from ikea to get decent furniture for a good price. I used to shop at goodwill for a couch but i think this time i think i want something a little better but nothing too crazy as this new place is just a temporary bachelor pad until i move onto a new stage in my life. Would appreciate any advice on this and other living essentials. Thanks.

I would be hesitant to buy used furniture. When I was in NYC, a friend bought a used desk and chair from a Craigslist seller. It ended up being a very costly purchase as my friend's apartment quickly became infested with bedbugs which were hidden in the used furniture.

If you are looking for good deals on furniture, just search on Slickdeals. They have all sorts of deals on everything you need to furnish your place.

I recently bought a really good desk on craigslist a few weeks ago. You can find some pretty good stuff on there. Also, for a place that small, try checking out r/minimalism on reddit for some pretty good ideas about maximizing the space you have to work with.

I second that. I lived in NYC for 2 years and heard some absolute horror stories from friends about bed bugs. If I was living there again I would NEVER take a chance on used furniture. In Texas though I would look at it differently.

I would consider looking into getting a bunk bed maybe that had a full size on top and a desk underneath it. I would only consider that of course if you would use the desk.

Just go to different furniture stores. Some places will make you a great deal on damaged items or left over items from a broken set.

My brother in-law got a great deal on a couch that had a small rip on the back side. The couch sets against the wall and no one sees the rip.

Actual name brand furniture stores (like Star furniture) seem expensive, and often are expensive. However, they often have sales, deals, floor models, closeouts, and other factors that allow you to purchase decent new furniture for about the same price as purchasing cheapo particle board stuff.
