Losing Nene in the Spurs series really changed the tide of that series I think. We would be doing right by him (and us( to lock him up for a couple more years. I was amazed at his contributions this entire season.
He turns 35 in September and given his several injuries, I don't think teams will throw money at him. Since we need help at Center anyways, the best way is to keep him for little money, limit his minutes in regular season and hope he'll show up again next spring like in this years' OKC series.
I know you are right. I lean towards EG, but only because I have seen him more. SweetLou came in strong & had a good run in L.A. But he hasn't proven himself here yet.
Thanks for this, CM. Can you perhaps clarify, "He wants more help from big guys. He can't be the only big who can score and use the post." Thanks for this, too.
old news. i doubt he takes a dirty cheap deal but idont think he'll want like 10-15m per. i dont mind giving him 10 the first year, then 5 the next. he's worth it
His improvement on offense, has been incremental. Harden makes him look good, because of his ability to run the pick and roll. Take that out, and there isn't much left. Nene would have never said, to get a guy who can score in the post, if Capela or Ryan were up to the task. The Rockets need cap room. Capela can be matched if needed, after the end of the next season. I do like Capela's defensive potential though, and I think he will get better on that end, and I expect him to rebound better too. That isn't enough though, for an extension right now, in my opinion. Ryan is not tradeable, for cap room, and neither can Harrell, or Nanu be expected to match up with the bigs in the league.
Yeah, I think he fits here too, he can't be this impactful on another team. Let the market choose his worth. And Codman - I hope you are in good health! DD
How did the Rockets rob a dude that got injured basically non contact in the most important part of the season?? He was completely valueless at that point and he Rockets sucked thereafter. I mean I'm not hating. Loved the dudes play. Loved it loved it loved it. But this is a guy with an injury history who got injured. Guess what?? He's likely to get injured again. ANd again not to be a Debbie downer. But the Rockets have a lot of guys with injuriy histories and other than Nene were generally very healthy last year. THats a concern going forward that it won't happen again like that.
Yes! Bring him back. I am more concerned about keeping him as our back up center more than i am worried about Capella. Nene is absolutely right about getting him some help. Make some calls Harden.
Well I got news for Nene. He's likely going to have to sit for awhile in FA if he wants back in Houston because they will likely make his signing the final one as they will need to us the MLE to sign him over the vet min assuming he wants more than that. Watch out for the warriors, cavs, or Spurs going at him in the first week with MLE or bi annual money since they are capped out right away and both need solid vet bigs. If he gets a decent offer early and the Rockets still are waiting on bigger fish, I think he could end up elsewhere. No way to tell which dominoes will drop at what time in FA so we just have to wait and see.
I'm not sure how it all works, but the Cavs are already over the cap. The Warriors will be the second they sign Curry to a max deal. And the Spurs have 5 million in cap space and need a point guard or multiple point guards. They would all have to free up some money. Rockets have 10 million in cap space. Again, I'm not sure how it all works, but cap flexibility does make things difficult for all parties. We've got everyone on a contract that matters except for Troy Williams and Nene. I like our chances.
Eg and lou were amazing for us off the bench. I would not trade either of those two unless it really nails us a star. I am definitely wondering what we're doing with an 18m dollar pf like ryan anderson that consistently dissappears.
Ryan's trade value is low, thus the discussion about possibly moving Lou, or EG and perhaps Ariza too, to get an outside chance of obtaining a star.
Nene had more impact this season in limited minutes then Dwight had all of last season. You just discount the vet leadership he brings and he seems to bring the best out of Harden.More importantly MDA seemed to rely on him when things got hairy and more often then not he produced in spades.
I think Morey will trade Lou and his sweet deal to get a big name player. You look at Lou's contract and it is one of the best in the league. 7 million dollar contract in it's last season. Combined that with Lou's scoring prowess teams will be very attracted to such a great deal. I think he will be here till the deadline but will be traded for a upgrade. We might have to include him in any deal to get rid of Anderson.
I think we keep him and have a serious think about who is the best young 3rd string C we have. Is it Onuaku or Harrell? Is there a 1% chance it could be Zhou Qi? Capela will be better, I'm certain of that. Nene will be a year older but I think he can maintain his productivity if we continue to manage his minutes. However we need someone who is not a total liability on the nights Nene sits, and someone who can be a matchup option in the playoffs. I think Capela will give us 30-32 good minutes next season anyway. I wonder about Nene's value though. He was incredible in the playoffs and may have created interest from other teams. I like him as a character/leader on this team though, I think we should keep him around at least one more season.
I'm talking about their ability to add a player over the cap with the tax payers MLE. It's likely to be right around if not above what the Rockets plan on offering. The full MLE this year I think is right above 4 mil per. Haven't checked but last year it was 3.75 I believe so should be around 4 mil this year.
