I know this is a taking the argument in a little different direction, but I think it's important to note. People should be offended or scared to see real stuff, and not offended or horrified at fake gore and destruction in films. It has to do with knowing fact from fiction. Scary movies, don't scare me at all, or gross movies don't really gross me out in any real way. COPS, or other reality shows that show real horrible events happening do disturb me, because I know it's real, it's sad, and I don't like it. I don't think I'm personally being held accountable for any of that stuff or supporting that like people are who see babies blown apart when they are in favor of war. In a way I'm agreeing with the principle of the post, but just pointing out that I don't think there is anything wrong with a culture that would want to pay money to see ultra violent fiction, but not want to see real violence. People not knowing the difference and having a solid grasp on that is why some people want to eliminate violent video games, movies, etc. and say they are responsible for incidents like columbine. If people understood the difference between fictional violence and real violence to bein with, people wouldn't try and blame real problems on the influence of those things.
I stand by what I posted. I don't have a problem with showing graphic images to adults to make a point. I didn't, when I used to take the streets, but I understand it. I think there are a multitude of ways to get the point across without showing them to little kids. Sometimes it can't be helped, but if it can be avoided it should, in my opinion. I suppose I shouldn't have used "war is hell". It's been used to the point of meaninglessness. I could have said, "War is a violent game that in which people get killed and maimed... often the innocent spectators. And the people who think they won are often the people who really lost, if not on the battlefield, then in losing part of what made them great to begin with. Do that often enough and pretty soon you are not what you were. You're just like the people you thought were worth going to war with."
There was a guy in a Pro Life protest wearing a shirt that on the back said Got Aids Yet? These guys make me nuts because they embarass me as a Christian with their hateful speech. The shirt he was wearing doesn't exactly reflect the message I have always been taught about Christ's love for fellow man.
