If Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) kicks the bucket I'll probably need counseling....

Clint Eastwood is gonna bother me. Chris Cornell really bothered me today. I'm not gonna lie; shed a tear or three.

You don't know until it happens, circumstances and nature of death can play a part. Probably seems trite now; but Shakur's death was pretty weird considering rap music had only recently been entirely overtaken by gang themes, and a lot of still prominent performers at the time had somewhat middle class roots and weren't engaging in explicitly life-threatening behavior. I was pretty unsympathetic and probably started gradually reducing any full blown interest in the music. As a black kid just finishing high school who didn't necessarily grow up in predominantly black environments, it was an interesting shock to the system.

I think Michael Kennedy and John Kennedy Jr's deaths happened within a year or two of each other, Michael's was so weird because of the football tie-in and John's threw me just because George was literally the only magazine I read at the time.

Of course the suicides always throw you, Richard Jeni and Robin Williams still just don't make any sense.

Yeah I think Clint Eastwood wouldnt be just a loss but an icon of the old school end-of-an-era thing

We just don't have LEGEND-level celebs anymore. Cuz society attitude has changed. Its like celebs now are there to kick around instead of being admired. Deaths are still sad for post-2000's celebs, especially since they'll be young or relevatively young. But celebs who made their breakthrough in the 50's-90's will hit with extra thump.

Or ones directly tied into childhood and simpler times, those always draw out the feels. Like Princess f***ing Leia. But yeah, all of the top rock legends, action heroes, dramatic actors, comedians, athletes of the times that DEFINED the generations, theyre all gonna suck lol.

Since Chris Cornell's death, I've been on a 90's music binge and started listening to some early Smashing Pumpkins (Gish, Siamese Dream, Pisces Iscarot).

With that said, I'd be pretty disappointed if Billy Corgan died

Shirley Manson from Garbage would probably really bother me, been a massive fan of hers and the band since high school, would feel very strange to never seen see them in concert again.....

Actors, I think Tom Hanks and Patrick Stewart would pretty have a pretty big effect on me as well....

I loved SP, but he hasn't contributed anything noteworthy in 15 years and his band still hates him. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. He's basically already dead.

You could say the same about Chris Cornell not contributing anything noteworthy since Audioslaves last album in 2006 (since then he's had solo work and a new Soundgarden album). But this is probably a bad comparison.

You have to admit though those first three albums by Smashing Pumpkins were pretty awesome, even Pisces Iscariot had awesome tracks. Melancholy was too radio friendly for me and the fashion sense that the band took at that point was god awful IMO.

I did see them in 1996 for their Melancholy tour at the Summit when Garbage opened for them. I kinda felt that Billy had this pathetic rock star attitude about him when he attempted to talk with the audience. I remember Billy saying something like "I heard the Rockets just got Charles Barkley, so I guess they should be good this year.....anyways this next song....." I was kinda like, "wtf dude?" knowing he and the band was from Chicago and probably a Bulls fan.

But SP, just like many bands of the era, was musically a huge part of my life. So yes, Billy Corgan's death would be upsetting to me

Cornell was working on new stuff with Soundgarden, Corgan is off the rails and his band wont rejoin him despite his pleas. To me it's apparent that his original band-mates were just as much a part of what made them special as Corgan alone was. And unlike Corgan, Cornell can SING like a beast.

I completely admit Smashing Pumpkins had great albums, I'd rank at least 2 of their albums ahead of any single Audioslave, Soundgarden, Cornell or ToTD album.

I also agree that for whatever reason, Corgan sucks live. I hate the Woodlands but actually saw the Smashing Pumpkins/Cornell concert they did a few years back. Cornell realllly OUTSHINED them.

When someone you remember vividly being young, full of life, and indestructible dies it shines a light on your own mortality. Kind of like seeing the sports stars you looked up to as a kid retire and go into the HOF. (I remember Biggio's rookie year like it was yesterday when I was in elementary school...and then to see him retired and in the HOF...

That's why Carrie Fishers really hurt. I grew up seeing her as Princess Leia and now she's gone. I agree with Tom Hanks (I have slight memories of Bosom buddies being on TV as a very young child, although it might have been in reruns).

Michael Jackson hurt the feels as his albums were basically a soundtrack of my youth in the 80s.

Ok, this where I'll agree with you. Smashing Pumpkins albums were a hell of a lot better than Soundgarden albums. I never saw Soundgarden or Audioslave, but with Cornell's vocal range and manly attire I can imagine a better show. Having seen Smashing Pumpkins live, I will have to say he acted and sounded like a b****.

Cornell was a sad loss, but for me Corgan would be too.

Tom Hanks would be really sad. "...I might not be a smart man, but I know what love is.". My favorite line from my favorite movie
