Dude are you trolling? Say what you want about hardens limitations and bad playoff performances but it is asinine to say a player like him is a dime a dozen.

You seriously think capela is more valuable than harden?

Cap is currently a boy amongst men. Lock him up and put him on the Hassan Whiteside workout plan.

Then why were the Rockets able to draft Capela late in the 1st round? Same for Gobert.

Same reason Deandre Jordan fell to the 2nd round.

Great big men are rare for the same reason that they're a crap shoot - a lot of them pan out to be Hasheem Thabeet.

Did you misspell role trying to be clever since Clint is James' roll man? If so, kudos.

I love Clint . His play this season and in the playoffs was great to watch .

That being said , unless he develops some skills then it's going to be tough for him to blossom into a true star .

How many big men out there are stars that can't shoot ?

I can really only think of 4 ; deandre , Gobert , and Drummond . Drummond wasn't good enough to get his eastern conference squad to the playoffs and is a liability offensively ... And isn't quite good enough defensively to make up for it . Whiteside didn't make the playoffs either , but the story of the heat this year was a weird one .... Maybe he is a star ... Regardless

So we are really down to 2 non-shooting centers that I would consider stars. Jordan plays with Chris Paul and Gobert has an incredibly high defensive upside.

I like Clint , but he doesn't have those guys physical tools. If he wants to crack the top 10 centers list he's gonna have to learn how to shoot. Maybe not from 3 , but from 15-18 .

    Kat
    Davis
    Cousins
    Gasol
    Jokic
Nurkic ( can pass and shoot a bit)

Are all guys that are going to stay at their level or grow and they can all score .

Among the centers that are not offensive threats ; Adams , Whiteside, Jordan , and Gobert all have better physical tools.

Clint can make up for some of this by continuing to gain strength and with his good instincts/ quick jumping ability .... But if he wants to place himself in the top 5 centers then he's going to have to develop some skills on offense .

TLDR .... I prolly wouldn't lock him up yet until he develops more skills or we can get him at a really good price.

@snowconeman22 i don't really consider DeAndre, Drummond and Gobert stars tbh..i mean, you can make a case for Gobert...maybe, but still...

That's what I'm sayin . Without skills it's hard if not impossible for a big guy to be a star .

Clint doesn't have skills even though he's good and could potentially be great on the defensive end.

In deciding whether or not to lock him up , I think you have to look at star potential ... If he doesn't have skills he doesn't have it.

Give him a typical Morey le steal contract. 6m/year over the next 3 years.

He looks lost on offense a bit too much. It really showed near the end of Rockets-Spurs game 5. Several times he got the ball in the high post or out near the three point line and looked like a deer in the headlights not having a clue where to look or who to pass to. He's an offensive liability outside of some very narrow uses, who has had his lack of skill masked by our system. He's showing potential on defense, but it's not like he's a big time stopper. I like him, but I don't think I'd max him.

I guess the counter to that is that the current crop of bigs is really, really weak. I just looked at the power rankings and I was pretty shocked at all the scrubs in the Top 20 big men. A "nice player" from back in the day like Otis Thorpe would be elite today. I cannot even imagine what Dream would do to today's NBA. Like can you even imagine Dewayne Dedmon, Lamarcus Aldridge, or Pau Gasol trying to check or score on Dream?

For those so quick to part with CC - This kid's always been waaay ahead of schedule...He's constantly surprising me.. Swiss rolls from the French League to impacting the WCF's....battling back from his broken leg to being a MUCH bigger factor in the playoffs this year. Bigs take awhile to develop...and he has THE best teachers/mentors...CC's already done all this and he would just now be a rookie if he had gone to college for 4 years. Clint's also still filling out. lateral quickness/explosion/instincts...IS on his way to being a GREAT defensive player.I mean...you don't trade players like this. I disagree vehemently with BBH this time. I think he's going to be a Rocket for many years..and also see him becoming a top 10 center for most of his career. CC's Cambyesque...with the potential for an even higher ceiling.

If Clint can fix his hands for catching and soft touches over summer, work towards a Dikembe type player. I'd be happy to renew him.
