It's like the start of Watchmen, except it's the heroes of grunge that are dying mysteriously, decades after their heyday.

Just came across this. Didn't know it had happened a few years ago. I'm a huge Avett Brothers fan and "Vanity" is one of my favorite songs of theirs...

Well, this ****ing sucks. A couple of my favorite concert memories were at their shows.

Always loved he and Staley and Cantrell's vocals on this one.

RIP Chris, your band's work helped me and many others in some of the most difficult obstacles in life, and it will continue to do so. Sad day for the music world, an age that can't be replicated......

that voice, man. easily distinguishable from anyone one else out there. hard not to feel what he was feeling whenever he opened his mouth.

really a sad day. it may be a crappy thing to say, but i haven't shed a single tear for a music artist's death until today. reason being i just chalk it up as more folks passing as i get older and had some sort of acceptance with it.

but this one hurts. maybe because some his tunes put me in that moody, dark place that i know isn't healthy for me but still get that sick satisfaction from being in it.

    rip, chris.

Used to love 106.9 Z Rock. They had like a nightly or weekly (cant remember) top 10 that i listened to religiously. If I'm not mistaken, they were based out of Dallas

First time I heard Outshined was on Z Rock

Hopefully not Vedder or Grohl. I think those two should be alright but then again we never know what the mindset is.

Btw, I want to Rage about 94.5 the buzz.
I get in my car hoping to catch some Soundgarden, say Hello 2 heaven so some **** only to hear commercials....for the next 6 minutes, followed by traffic, followed by Rod Ryan's bro ass talking about how he's devistated and they'll play music.

They didn't play ****. They did more traffic, another juice cleanse ad and I get to work after my 20 minute commute and still no music.

Growing up as a metalhead teenager, Soundgarden was my "gateway" band to more alternative bands. Obviously, Cornell's voice was the first thing you noticed, but I think it was his songwriting that made the band really interesting – particularly the way the riffs twisted in the odd time signatures and modal scales. Also, there was a psychedelic quality to the dual guitars that made listening to them on headphones really enjoyable; I had headphones that allowed me to hear either the left or right side of the stereo spectrum in mono, and Soundgarden albums always yielded something interesting when I did that. I learned a lot about arranging guitars for my own bands by listening to them.

I didn't think much of Audioslave - it replaced all the subliminal weirdness and complexity of Soundgarden with the rather derivative riffs of RATM (plus the usual guitar gimmicks of Tom Morello). It just wasn't a good fit to my ears, but obviously lots of people disagreed with me. And I never listened to his solo stuff.

I'm sad that his time came so early, not just because of the grief it will cause for those close to him, but because every great artist deserves a day or an evening where his peers, his patrons/ supportive critics and his followers re-evaluate and celebrate his work. Unfortunately, Cornell won't get to be part of that when that day comes.

RIP, saw him when Soundgarden toured w/ NIN (I guess 2 years ago now)... He still had it, freaking shocked. Way too young just like the other Grunge Legends.

I'm glad I at least got to see him live, but this sucks

I listen at the office, they actually have been a wide variety of his music (Hello 2 Heaven, Billy Jean cover, imagine cover, bunch more outside their usual playlist)....main issue with the over the air radio is all the commercials to pay the bills.....

One of the best singers ever.

My first concert was audioslave at buzzfest. I sucked it up and had to sit through nickelback just to see audioslave headline

    Audioslave made it worth it
