I'm slowly transferring from computer DJ to real-time. I got the mixer, a few cd decks, but I'm lookin for good prices on better equipment and possibly speakers and lighting. Anyone know of any place that can hook it up?

Ebay. If you know what you want, that's the place.

Sounds like you've got a starter rig going. You need some speakers and an amp? For cheap, try pyle pro. It works good, costs very little. Get the "2000 watt" (250 rms/channel@8ohms) amp and the 15inch 3 way speakers, or the two way, with metal grill. Two vendors, audioblowouts and sell2all, have that gear pretty cheap, new. the amp is approx. 280 and the speakers about $ 250 for the pair. Very good price, Actually, good sound overall. You could buy 12'' speakers instead for a little cheaper and lighter rig. Buy some speaker stands to elevate your speakers and you'll get much better performance for not much more money. Plus, it gets your equipment off the floor and away from prying hands that kill the sound at the very wrong time. IF you can, go with speakon cables, for that reason. They have a connector clip that locks in, unlike 1/4 inch jacks. Really, really, helps out, plus you get better signal.

IF you want to spend more and get better quality, go to crown amps and jbl or electrovoice speakers, which are very, very good.
I prefer the electrovoice, but they are heavy. Very good dynamic range - can reproduce just about anything clearly. Good subs too, that you can run passive on a larger amp.

    Good luck and have fun.

If you want dj p*rn : try music123.com and pssl.com . Drool away at the pioneer gear. The new behringer copy of the pioneer djm600 mixer is really great, it works very much the same but only costs 200 bucks.

    best wishes,

    p

Nicely thought out response pasox, very helpful.

Also if you don't know what you want you can find some okay stuff at Guitar Center. They will help you out and you can return it if it isn't working for you.

Nice info P. Thanks. As for guitar center, I was hesitant about them, becuase I don't know if they'd have the lowest price.

If you're looking for turntables, mixers, etc...check online. There are a lot of turntablist forums and I've seen really good equipment on sale there. Actually I remember friends when first starting find good deals on there and come out with really good equipment. If you don't want to order then best bet would be Guitar Center. If you have any other questions, though I'm not a dj/turntablist anymore I'm still involved with the scene, so hit me up.

i know you said you were looking for the best price which you should. in saying that, if you still have money to spend vestax and technics is the best money can buy.

i would buy that only if your sure that intend to stay with it because they are expensive, but the best.

What kind of CD decks did you get to mix with?

FWIW, I loved my Klipsch La Scalas. They finished them in black with handles and casters. Awesome sound. You should prob try ebay for a decent price.

Problem no.1- I'm in CHicago, not Houston. Therefore you guys providin me with houston hookups, it wouldn't really be any use to me. But thanks anyways. :)

Problem no.2 - I'm workin with a real small budget for now, but planning for future.

I have an old technics cd deck (SL-P111), and a sony cd deck. I got a radio shack (SSM 1200) 4 channel mixer but I'm about to get a 7 channel Behringer DX1000 Pro Mixer. I want to get the Numark CDN-90 for the CD deck but thats almost $800. Same with the Numark TTX1's for Turns, they're up in the 800's. A good place online I found so far has been zzounds.com I'm also looking for a place to get vinyls.

This : is a great mixer for the money. I'd get that instead of the 1000.

This : is the sweetest cd deck you will ever use. You can do just fine with a plain old dual deck with no cue points or anything, but add one of these and new dimensions. Even better, work with 2, and suddenly, you don't need vinyl.

They also make a cheaper version that works very nearly just as well. That could be a good option, instead of the dual :

The new Denon decks have a nice feature in that the platter turns, like vinyl, AND they will play MP3's!

    here:

Good luck with the gear hunt.

if you want the best scratching decks i would go with the CDJ-800 unless you have the money to buy the CDJ-1000MKIIs

The CDJ-800 has the same scratching ability as the CDJ-1000MKII but the difference is that they took out some pretty useless features and decreased the price. There is also the CDJ-1000 which was the first player Pioneer made and it was great but for some reason the scratching was better on the CDJ-800 so they decided to release the CDJ-1000MKII

I hated the Denon player, THe only cool thing about it is that it has a lotta features but theres so many thats its confusing, Another advantage to the Denon is that the platter rotates.

Pioneer makes some great equipment, but you can get a really nice mixer instead of that one. It is very highly priced and its only worth it if you are going to have lots of inputs and want effects.

I have a Pioneer CMX-3000 Dual CD Player and and pretty satisfied with it. plus have I have a Numark Matrix 3 Mixer which was a great deal for the money. It has taken a lot of abuse and it still isnt bleeding.

If it isn't too much to ask, can you guys tell me how much you got your equip for? Like every individual piece? Also, about the Beringer mixer, my friend is selling it to me for 150, thats why I'm getting it. What's the difference between the 1000 and the 750? The 1000 has more channels, so should'nt that be better?

    Compare and contrast : Mixer 1 Beheringer DJX700 5 channel w/effects - sale price $ 200.00

    http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl?eqint_KeyIDdata=35597&UID=2003072515025694

    Mixer 2 Beheringer vmx1000 7 channel regular price $ 179.00

    http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl?eqint_KeyIDdata=36287&UID=2003072515025694

basically, you get two bpms and effects with the 700. It's a copy of the pioneer djm600. An extra nice feature is the dual set of kill switches right by the crossfader.

The 700 is a better buy. You get a lot for the extra cash.

Hit the pssl site direct, and check music123, ebay and other vendors. Http://www.pssl.com

I have bought a lot of gear from them, and they are a good vendor.

You should check out musiciansfriend.com. I believe they are affiliated with Guitar Center...plus there is definitely a guitar center in Chicago, I've been there. Its near Diversey (sp?) and Halsted. I've got 5-10% off gear by just asking for it but at different GC.

Anyways Musicians Friend-12 months no interest with their card, free UPS ground on most items, no questions asked returns. no sales tax if you don't live in Kansas...or Missouri...where ever Kansas City is. Prices are pretty much average.

My only advice would be if you are serious and intend to stick with it, get the best gear. Instead of buying all the cheap gear at once, buy one thing at a time. Slowly build up your equipment or else you are really just wasting your money. "You get what you pay for" rings true when it comes to dj gear.

A $200 mixer might look and seem to work like a $1000 mixer but there definitely is a reason its only $200. Not to mention is looks like a knock off. Questions about quality of construction, durability, and sound quality come to mind.
