Is it a recurrence of Phlebitis?

This is devestating news, hopefully the Rockets can play with Cato the way they did at the end of last year.

On the news, they said Dream himself is in good spirits. I guess he realizes that it's just something he can't control. Dream has accomplished eveything a player could accomplish, I think in a way, if it has to end, he's resolved in that he left being one of the greatest players of all-time. Again, I hate to see it end this way, but Hakeem has nothing more to prove to anyone. If this is the end, he can be proud of the career he had.

I'm sure I'll be crying even more after the game.

Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.

Would a win soften the blow? Pacers are one of those teams we can probably beat w/o a C...

No, I don't suppose it will. Plenty of time to mourn after the game...

Well, if he does retire, then I can proudly say that I was at his last game when he was in full health, and his last game when he really shined like the Dream of old.... oh god I didn't want it to end this way. [IMG]

None will ever surpass you Dream, you are Houston sports, and always will be. Take care of yourself...

i think the injury actually makes it MORE likely that hakeem will be back next year on the rockets. i doubt any other team will be willing to sign hakeem given this condition ... and the rockets will likely offer him a contract out of loyalty. on top of that i still think hakeem of 2001 is still a starting center in the league (which is really more a comment on the state of centers in the league).

i also think in one sense this is better for next year because it forces cato to step up (hopefully he'll be up to the task). i'm not writing off the playoffs for this year but i definitely think the rockets aren't going far in the playoffs any year until the at least get a consistent effort in the middle.

This means he's gonna miss the offseason, and he won't be coming back. [IMG]

One thing I know is, when he does get better, they better make a tribute game. He could invite all the past/current players he'd like to, and we'd have an allstar-type game in his honour.

    Good Luck....

you couple this with MJ not able to get over himself, part III, and ... well...

the NBA just got lamer times 2.

Thank the Almighty Dream was able to do what he did for the majority of most of our lifespans... at least we have that.

some of you might recognize me from the gameday chat lounge, but for the most part, i normally don't post much on here (but i read almost everyday). but after hearing the news, i just had to say something in honor of the greatest center ever to play the game. i'm still not going to let go of the hope that he will come back next season. although i'm in LA, i made plans to come back for his final game of the season. even though he probably wont play, i'm still going to come to honor him. get well, DREAM, and thanks for all that you have given us. you are truly loved...

Unbelievable. I just heard the news about 30 minutes ago and I am in total shock. I certainly hope he makes a comeback next year no matter who he plays for, but I'm not too sure whether it is the best thing for him to do.

The Dream will be missed. I truly believe he is the greatest center of all time. Thanks for everything Dream.

I just hope Dream comes out okay from this latest setback. I was at Clyde's jersey retirement and I can only imagine what Dream's will be like.

Well, if we make the playoffs, we can probably trade Cato's lame ass, cause he'll need to step up. Trade him and bring in Webber and Jackson. This is not the end of the Rockets by any means.

In the mid-80's, until 87, when I graduated high school, I spent one too many late nights watching the Rockets on TV. Some kid at school thought I was a stoner, me with my bloodshot eyes and all. No, I'm no stoner. I got high watching the best center who ever played the game. Watching Hakeem move like he was dribbling a soccer ball on his feet, facing the basket, back to the basket, Dream Shaking and Baking, blocking, dunking....man, I can't believe it's over. But if it's a question of his health; if he never plays for us or anyone again; let me just be the one to say:

    Thanks, Dream.
