At least we get to kick off with Keuchel and McCullers, this will be the biggest test of the young season. My hope: WWLL
For no means am I a yankees fan but I want to show homage to the greatest general manager that could have been. You hear baseball experts and fancy stat geeks throw out terms like "exit velocity" and "Launch angle", terms that sound more like steven segal and jean claude van damme movie titles from the 90s. But one man was doing it before anyone almost 21 years ago to this day. Now let's kick those sons of beaches in NY. (i'll take a 2-2 series)
Only our 4th game and 2nd series vs a .500+ team. We're 1-2 on the season. We miss their worst starter (Sabathia), but he's LHP. A split would be decent.
Of those two losses, two of them were by 1 run. Astros have only played 12 games against teams that aren't better than 0.500 against teams not based in Houston. Of those 12 games, 7 of them are from teams within 2 games of 0.500 against teams not based in Houston. Seattle, the team that Astros has faced with best record against teams not based in Houston, Astros are 5-2.
this will be a tough series on both sides. It's imperative that Keuchel gets us off to a great start and that Lance is solid. Montgomery has pitched well so far, and Severino and Tanaka have been hot lately. Well, Severino didn't pitch great 2 starts ago, but he still has a clear advantage over Fiers. WLLW. Split will be fine, series win gravy against this team on fire that just got Sanchez back off the DL in the 2/3 hole.
Let's take this whole damn thing guys. I can't wait to watch Judge rolling soft grounders to the infield all night. I love this team. Keep the foot on the gas!!
Keuchel tonight should be a win (on paper). LMJ tomorrow scares me a bit on the road against the Yankees lineup but I think he will surprise us and we get a W. I will be very surprised if we win with Fiers on the mound Saturday afternoon. And I think our lineup will get to Tanaka and Morton will pitch a solid game on Sunday night. 3-1 seems a bit optimistic though and I will be more than OK with a 2-2 split against one of the hottest teams in the MLB.
Should be a fun series, and I'll gladly take 3-1. Maybe Correa can string together a few hits to help get him going?
well some good news. It looks like there's a 100% chance of rain on Saturday so hopefully fiers gets his turn skipped?
This is the biggest series so far for us to see if we are the top dog in the AL. I'm plenty excited because we are playing so well and it's the NY Yankees. The top two winning % team in the ML head to head..mano a mano!!! Plus, it's something about the Yankees that I just want to beat them real bad!!!
While I agree generally, if we lose, I'm not going to say "we're not among the AL/ML elite". I will still believe we are, though I know regardless of this series, another starter and LH RP would be helpful. So if we crush in this series, I can't take the opposing view and say "we're clearly the best". It's still just 1 series, and we're still among the AL elite. But please crush the Yanks, esp on Sunday! The Astros have done pretty huge things playing the Yankees in NY. No-hit them during the first series the Astros ever played @ NY Yanks (and first no-hitter anyone had thrown vs the Yanks since the 50's), won the first playoff game between these teams 2 years ago up there. Crushing them on Jeter night would only be fitting.
I am expecting both McCann and Beltran to have big series against their old team and hopefully give us 3-4 or 2-3 if one game is rain out.
H2H records have only affected 2 of the Astros 8 opponents' .500-ness. It's okay to notice the early schedule has been weak... unless you are weak. HUGE series. I'd bet on Astros winning it over losing it.
I agree that winning or losing is not going to say one team is better than the other but this is a good measuring stick for us as a team and see how we play in the big stage against a good team. I like to see this and looking forward to see how our guys do against the big bad NY Yankees in NYC.
