    Sam, "regardless?" Seriously?

If Republicans dump Trump prior to mid-terms, they will get curb-stomped and lose both houses of Congress. He might be a relatively harmless lame duck AFTER midterms when they can safely ignore him and race for 2020.

This is my definition of a two-year Trump presidency.

I'll make one exception: If this Comey/Russia thing spirals out of control fast enough that he's gone by summer (which ain't gonna happen), your scenario could play out. Otherwise, the GOP will obstruct, delay and carry him on their shoulders to 2018.

Republicans will keep their Congressional and gubernatorial majority, and Trump will be reelected (as all modern incumbents have been). Democrats only got an opening because of the initial shock of reliving Vietnam, Katrina and the Recession.

If you think Paul Ryan is going to impeach Trump you are a damn fool. There is nothing that isn't accepted by the GOP anymore. Anything to get tax breaks for the wealthy. That is ALL they care about.

The only thing that will get Trump in check will be a 2018 sweep of the house that forces a change in oversight. Even then it's still going to be Clam Member Jeff Session running the DOJ.

If you are a Trump supporter tonight I'm sorry but you need to look at yourself in the mirror and face the facts that you and your poor decision making put a wannabe facist in power and are an active contributior in destroying our Democracy.

    @dobro1229 is correct.

    1) We don't know if there is anything impeachable to begin with
    2) Even if there were, it would have to rise to the absolute most offensive levels before the House would ever consider impeachment
    3) With the support of conservative media, the administration and House Republicans would just deny anything and call it fake news and it would never matter. So even if there WAS something impeachable, it would never stick.

The Russia stuff for example is an absolute non-story. The liberals thinking this will undo Trump are the mirror image of the conservatives who thought Bengazi was going to undo Obama.

Most would have never hoped that one of our presidents gets impeached. But times have changed.

You mean like they changed when the Kenyan Socialist was in the whitehouse the last 8 years? Surely you aren't just getting to the party with crocodile tears in your eyes over calls for impeachment now that there is a Republican in offic.

hypocrisy is an easy charge to sling in DC, I was more focused on whether or not he was claiming this is a liberal phenomenon or really didn't notice the last 8 years of Obama's presidency, Bush 43, Clinton's, or Reagan's. It's been going on for a while, and both sides can own this one.

This is the day that you choose to claim this? The left hated Comey 2 days ago but now they are defending him because of timing.

LOL - what? The Russian scandal is to Benghazi as James Harden is to a Clutch the Bear trampoline dunk. One is a big deal, one is a sideshow.

He just fired the FBI director because of it (unless you actually believe he fired him because Comey was unfair to Hillary before the election...lol) - Flynn had to resign because of it & Mannafort, Page and Stone appear to be facing some level of liability from it depending on if Trump gets a stooge in there to kill the investigation.

It like has literally nothing to do with the other - the very legitimacy of Trump's presidency is at stake and he knows it, hence the Watergate routine .... 3 months into his presidency.

That is not a good trend line and why I started this thread.

The point I'm making is not that Republican congressmen turn on Trump because i'ts the right thing to do - they're a cruel bunch of opportunistic cowards.

However this opportunism may lead them to see the light - they can wreck life for the poor much more smoothly with a President Pence.

As far as grounds for Impeachment - take your pick. Russia, conflicts of interest/emoluments, he can pretty much be impeached at any time.

I have claimed this for a long time, many conservative ideology currently in vogue are based on hypocrisy.

I don't think Trump will not be impeached because the Russia investigation is a "non story". In the grand scheme of the history of our nation, not much could potentially be bigger. We have potentially a puppet for a foreign dictator in the White House destroying our institutions that uphold Democracy.

That's big and we we need a credible investigation to make sure the public takes this serious to avoid falling for it again in two years, make sure any US citizens involved pay a price, and make sure it never happens again.

Where I think people are dumb to think Trump will be impeached is due to the lack of understanding of how a president gets removed and understand how little power stands against him with Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell being the only two guys who can stand up to the president along with the FBI and DOJ. Ryan and McConnell are now Trump guys because of their aligned interested to give tax cuts to the rich, the DOJ being Clan Member Trump fan Jeff Sessions who just violated his own recusal to help Trump out, and then there is the FBI.

(Not to mention a state run media source in FoxNews)

That's why Comeys firing is such a big deal. It removes the last remaining power to stand up the Trump. Now we will likely see a Trump sycophant put in place who will ensure that nobody can ever question the awesome power of Donald J Trump who is quickly becoming the most powerful US president in the history of our country since maybe George Washington.

Just think about that again .... Donald J Trump is quickly becoming the most powerful US President in the history of our country. If he is able to get an FBI director in that is a sycophant than it rounds out his axis of power in our government.

If you are not alarmed at the danger that Trump presents to the future of our country than you are putting party and Trump ideology over country.

The only thing "we" have left is to protest to put pressure on our local reps with the hopes that they feel the heat to not go along with Trumps agenda at the local and state level. Protesting only gets you so much. Nobody is changing McConnel, Ryan, Sessions, and the new FBI directors position on holding Trump accountable.

This is truly a sad day for America and if you still support trump you are either anti American or just a complete fool.

Delusional Sammie created a fake poll and a lot of people fell for it. The poll should have read: Will Mr Trump go down in history as one of the greatest presidents of all time when he finished his second term in 2025?

    1. I don't see "hope" in here. Most of us recognize Pence could be just as bad for the long-term health of the nation.
    2. We would all prefer the president not be acting like a dictator from Nicaragua (firing three top-level posts related to security and law enforcement in 110 days). We would prefer he had moderated after his campaign and done something centrist, but it's been the opposite of that, flaunting the law, basic decency, and verifiable truth almost daily.

So no one "hopes" for an impeachment. Most of the country is a mix of sad and scared right now when looking at our ruler.

My "hope" is that we can even have a real presidential election in 2020. I can see him canceling it, or changing voting laws so drastically (with GOP support), that it is just a sham election, like something you'd see in other kleptocracies.

I might be wrong, but i think there are a lot of Americans that hope he is impeached. You are probably right about this forum though. I don't think many on here wish that.

There may be no need. The GOP has been on a long authoritarian march toward single party dominance for quite a while. They have a propaganda network in FoxNews to toe the line for them while they gerrymander, subvert democratic norms (Carolina), suppress votes, and circle the wagons around Trump. Trump is a useful idiot for both the GOP and Russia. And they probably don't want to risk the taint of his impeachment to threaten their plans to solidify their gerrymandered gains and distort the 2020 Census (can't have those electoral college votes recalibrated).

I have concerns that in trying to keep the party dominant in our institutions, the GOP isn't learning that all it takes is the right personality to highjack the entire structure. Trump is gonna give them everything they want as long as they leave him to his kleptocratic desires. In the end, any further subversion of our democracy won't be Trump with GOP support, but both Trump and the GOP in concert, IMO.
