Perhaps it will be easier to get a big time free agent after the Rockets win the title this year. Food for thought.

Adding Hayward into the starting lineup will be a big upgrade, but that alone won't elevate us over the Warriors. We still have a major issue with Ryan Anderson being our starting PF (especially if he can't fix his bizarre shooting woes at Toyota Center), and Hayward doesn't address our defensive issues that much either.

Agreed but our current chances of winning a championship is the strength in the variance of our strategy. Right now, we hope to either win by having a huge game from our star, or a huge 3 point game. We increase our chances of winning if we have 2 stars that can go off, rather than just one. That might be the best we can hope for in this Warrior world we live in.

The high variance strategy is something worth using when you have a clear talent disadvantage. If Morey is able to attract free agents with the team's success this year, I think at some point he needs to get guys who can also play defense and rebound. We don't even have a legitimate 3&D wing. Andre Roberson would be a great addition if we think we can fix his shot for example.

Early indicators were that Hayward was open to leaving.

    No frontrunner team though

no real reason for him to leave a young team on the rise who can pay him more than anyone else.

if he did want to leave, rejoining his college coach in boston would be the best move.

why would he consider a 3rd option? most money is in utah and best chance of winning / strongest recruitment comes from boston. we have a better chance at blake or millsap.

It was on a TrueHoop pod and they've all been taken down from what I'm aware of.

Because you don't win a championship without a top 5 player, which the Rockets have.

I see, if Morey scoops him up in free agency...

we'd be the 2nd best team in the West, no debate

I think your spot on here - if he wants to catch a team on the rise, he's already got that in Utah, if he's looking to get on a title contending team, Boston is certainly up there in the east(although probably not a serious contender as long as Lebron is playing like a GOAT). If he wants to maximize his earnings in a big market, the Lakers will probably be an option for him. The only thing that would bring him to Houston would be if Boston makes a move to get Jimmy Butler/Paul George and he really wants to contend now...and oh ya - we would have to find a taker for Ariza or Lou to be able to offer a max deal - but remember Houston also needs to have money to sign Nene back(or someone comparable), and Capela's FA looms 2 years from now - the point being, maxing out our cap space for Hayward, may come at the price of some bottom of the barrel bigs for the next couple of years. I think Hayward would be a good fit in Houston(he's a smart off the ball offensive player which is a very good fit along side Harden) but I wonder if getting a smaller upgrade at the 3 won't be a smarter play in the long run to keeping a deep/flexible team.

in the era of super teams and KD going forces with warriors i think Hayward to Houston is very possible. Don't know how it'll work. We might have to trade Ryan Anderson. I think the best scenario we trade Ryan Anderson and acquire JJ Redick and Gordon Hayward. I wanna keep Anderson though. Does anyone know any possible way to keep both Anderson and acquire Hayward or a piece like Anderson must be moved to acquire Hayward

you must create your own super team.

Lowry must sign with the Spurs and Griffin will sign with them as well
    giving Spurs a lineup of
    Aldridge
    Griffin
    Kawhi
    Green
    Lowry
Theyll have to lose some guys but i think its possible

Rockets will need to acquire Hayward and have Gay come off the bench. But somehow keep all their key pieces they have right now. You do this and you can atleast compete with Golden State.

The Rockets would be very interested in Hayward...and so would James Harden. That being said...Hayward would leave a ton of money on the table if he walked away from Utah. Synder is a very good coach that is gonna try his very best to keep him there. Utah has some really nice young pieces, but losing Hayward for nothing would be crushing to the franchise. IMO, Gordon stays, but you never know. Hope the Rockets can get it done.
